Would you play here?

I have been considering opening up a small room. I am thinking of 8-10 tables to start, no alcohol or smoking, with a small sandwich bar and soda's, a jukebox and maybe an area for a few video games.

I am thinking primarily of the under 21 set and families, but I could remain open after the bars close for late night players. I would probably allow smoking during the after hour play.

The town I am looking at has no place to play that is not a bar, and there is a college there, so I think there may be a market for a place where younger players could go. I am thinking of a strip-mall type location, so parking would be ample.

What do you think? Would you play there or go to a bar?Coin-op tables or hourly, or a combination of the two?

Thanks,
Casey

I would play there if you have Simonis clothed 9-ft tables.
:D
Sounds like if you're going to cater to kids, you're gonna have bar box tables only. I hate those. But kids love them.
Good luck in your venture.

I am currently thinking of 4 8' Valleys and 4 9' GC's (or something similar). I hate the barboxes also. The 9 footers would be hourly's and the valley's would be coin-op. I would hold weekly tournaments, Probably 9 ball on the 9 footers, and 8 ball on the barboxes. All the tables would have Simonis.

I am friends with aguy that runs a room in Kentucky, and it is in a college town located in a dry county. He does very good business and has the same type of set up you speak of. I can get you in touch with him if you'd like.

The Q Club in Manchester, CT is an operation similar to what you describe. It seems to be doing fairly well. I've been in there twice. Once I was accompanied by a youth and was treated reasonably well except for an obvious overcharge.

Another time I went in alone to inquire about a tournament. Since I appear significantly over the age of 21 it was made quite clear that my presence was not appreciated. I just thought I might come in and watch the kids play.

No smoking, no alcohol and no adults. Kind of an odd place.
