WPB World 9 ball

poolmouse...As a competitive venue (at least here in the USA) you may be correct. As an entertainment venue there are 1000's of opportunities available for poolplayers to make a very nice living. Whether or not they get taken advantage of remains to be seen. Tell you one thing for certain, they won't work sittin' on your ass waiting for someone to come knocking on your door!

Yep, it'll always be a game. It'll never be a viable profession. Ever.

Yeah-i haven't been to many tournies live.:) Not to mention you have changed your premise from "no one watches finals at any tournament" to "WHEN there is action, blah blah etc" Two very different statements. I have seen the latter many times myself but still not the majority. The SBE pro event seems to be a real dud for some reason regardless imo in recent years.

Well "when" is almost every event anyones left around. If theres no action then those places are empty as the people go ahead and head home instead of watching the finals.

Pal, pools going nowhere. I've played it or been around it since 16, I'm 38. I've played on all types of tours and different big events. I've gambled as high if not higher then 95% of all players on the planet as well during that time. The "Pros" want to many handouts.
Seen the end of the old days of pool in the early 90s, which was way better then nowadays and heard all about the 80s and 70s when I was first playing as it was not to far past then. There is zero upside. Take the game for what it is and move on.

There is no savior. And it sure in the hell is not Bonus Ball. Although it will be starting back up at the beginning of October. But for only like 5 recorded weeks of play or something with players taking a HUGE paycut which will definitely make them not want to play. Although they will show up for the 5 episodes as they are getting their back pay, thank goodness.

I know pool is not going anywhere. The only people that think it is are the newbies who have come into pool in the last 3-4 years, are enamored by it and think everyone else would get enamored by it too if exposed.

The only chance is in the distant future when kids do a complete reversal and begin to think "REAL" stuff is cooler than bits, bytes, lights and computer code. That is at least 6-7 years away and maybe a lot longer. It could bring pool back to respectability but never the big time.

Otherwise I've been hearing the same crap about sponsors, dress codes, gambling, rule changes forever. Nothing changes and i cant imagine BB will be back in any form. That doesnt mean i dont want it back- I just cant see it is all.

You are correct on all, except Bonus Ball. It will be back in a few weeks, thats the plan, but that will probably mark the end of it. I think thy are going to try one more thing, which I don't see working. But at least the players are supposed to be paid. Hope it don't fall thru on them. We will see in 3 weeks I guess.

... Golf has 234 people (this year) who made a decent living, does that count as a "profession"? ...

You're just counting players who have earned over $100,000 on the PGA Tour. If you add in all of the other professional golf tours in the world, including those for women, you might triple that number.

What's your source for the BB info? Has something been announced?

Ok, let's triple that. Are you presuming they will continue to make that amount, every year? Maybe win a little more every year until retirement? And that a bank will loan them money if/when they decide to buy a house? And that all the "income" from these tournaments is reported to the IRS?

Yea, right. Professional. Um'kay...

Well, the individual golfers move up and down the money lists from year to year. But quite a few players remain on those lists, earning a significant income, for many years. And, yes, I imagine a great number of them are able to get bank loans for houses. And, yes, I imagine most of the tournament income is reported to the appropriate taxing authorities.

And in addition to the tournament players, the sport also has thousands of club professionals, many of whom earn a good living.

[Note that I have said nothing about pool.]
