WPBA Payouts

I see where the WPBA is paying 48 places this time. Win one match and you get $650. Not bad. 1st place $16,000. 2nd $9500. And a chance for being on TV. And many of the women win their entry fee in a minor tournament. So even with the stiff $500 entry fee it keeps them coming back.

I might be wrong here, but I don't think the Pro's are able to win their entries. Most of the WPBA Qualifiers allow pro's to play, but not win the Qualifier. So they are on their own for the $500. But with the sponsorship these ladies get in comparison to the men's, the $500 may be easier to come up with.

I think you are right but that is how the lower ranked players can win an entry fee and keep them interested. The Spirit Tour offers qualifiers and I believe Bonnie Coates and Helene Caukin have won them in the past.

That is an increase isn't it?? Or is it only for this tourney because of added money??

Jake,

The WPBA has always paid 48 spots. As a matter of fact, they used to pay all 64 spots. Last year they changed it to 48 spots. It is generally $550 for 33rd-48th place, but the tournament prize fund has increased here lately. Plus, this is the US Open so there is more prize money. As for the qualifiers, touring pros are not allowed to win the qualifier spot. When pros play in the qualifiers, the highest finishing amatuer gets the spot. As for sponsors paying entries, that is true, alot of players have sponsors that do that, but not everyone. It does keep everyone interested and coming back. My question is, would you be saying that if 33rd-48th was paid more than the entry fee?? Many professional sports pay out that many spots.

Hey CC!

How are you? Thanks for introducing yourself to me at Bill and Billies. I hope your cute little girl had fun playing pool.

As for your statement, yes, the Touring Pros are exempt from winning a Qualifier. There is a ladder from which the WPBA uses to fill their events and it may be proprietary information, so I will hold off posting about it now until I can get permission.

Their is a method to the madness, as only a Tour Coordinator can say.

Do you think they should pay all spots?

When the WPBA put on a 48-player tournament, they paid the two-and-out spot $350. So basically, it made the $500 entry fee really only $150.

When they went to the 64-player format, they eliminated the two-and-out payout. And I think that's only fair. You should win at least one match to make back any money.

What other tournament pays for going two-and-out?

No, I don't think they should pay all spots. I believe you should have to earn your money. I myself don't even think that 33rd-48th should be paid. I think you should have to have a top half finish in order to be paid.

I was just complimenting the WPBA that they are able to pay 48 of the players. Plus it is $150 more than the entry fee. And 1st place is $6000 higher than usual.

It bodes well for the leadership of the WPBA to be able to do that. Especially when you see that entry fees will bring in $32,000 and they are paying out $108,000 for this tournament.

Evidently they worked hard to get added money for the players.

I think it is great that the WPBA pays some many spots and can get location to add the kind of money they do. The qualifiers are a great way for the up and coming to get their feet wet and earn a free entry into a WBPA event. I wish we could have a mens pro that would follow the same formula.
