Wrapless cues

I don't want this to sound as a dig on other cuemakers because it is not. I am trying to learn how cuemakers make a wrapless cue with wood trim rings or no rings between woods and avoid a buzz in the cue. It was my understanding that a lot of buzzes are caused by the endgrains of wood coming in contact with each other. Thanks on advance for any explanations.

I have always thought of a buzz ring as a phenolic ring sandwiched between woods to keep the endgrains from contacting each other.
