Wrapless to Wrap

I have a wrapless sneaky that I would like to put a leather wrap on. What would be the downfalls of this. Would like to to know before I proceed.

$200 would be the starting price to cut a wrap groove and install a leather wrap on that.
Assuming, it's straight.
That's the biggest downfall.

Approx how would the weight be changed, wood shaved vs leather wrap?
