wrapless to wrapped

For as long as I can remember, I've been shooting with a wrapless cue. For those that have done it, how hard of a transition (if any) would it be to switch over to a wrapped cue? My hand does tend to sweat on occasion, but not to a great extent. I have seen other posts regarding alternatives to linen, but wanted to find out from other players if they found the transition difficult.

I appreciate all input/suggestions.

Hi Kevin,

I started with wrapped cues, and was okay with it. But when I went to a wrapless, I liked it a lot. Going back to a wrapped cue, really bothers me.
But that's just my opinion. I really don't like the leather wraps. If I had to go back to a wrap, I'd go with Irish Linen.

I have a wrapless, linen wrapped and leather wrapped cue and switch between them all. I really don't notice much of a difference and I don't understand people who say they do.

Then again, I hold the cue very lightly...

I'm just the opposite. I switched from wrapless to wrapped, and I love the irish linen wraps. I have tried a few wrapless cues lately, and I just can't go back. I also tried a friends Lucassi Hybrid, and it felt awesome. My reason for switching was the same, sweaty hands. My hands do not sweat as much anymore, but the wrapless cues are just uncomfortable to me now.

Thanks for the input so far. The last time I used a wrapped cue was many many moons ago when I lived back in HI. The only thing I remember was how tacky the wrap would get....on some occasions I even recall the cue wrap sweating when I took it out of my case.

I don't like Irish Linen anymore

I have always used Irish Linen Wraps on my Schuler Cues, but now I bought a wrapless Chuck Starkey cue and love it, and I am getting my Schuler refinished and a cork wrap. The cork wraps I have looked at feel great. Mine is being done by Rat Cues at Mueller.

Definitely would never get rid of my current cue, but really want to pick up a cue that I can't see paying out of the nose to get wrapless in its original condition.

Not sure that I understand this last post, but would concur with James in that I switch between wrapless and wrapped and don't have a problem at all.

I'm just saying that if/when I personally go to a wrapped cue, I won't get rid of my old wrapless. The cue I'm looking to get isn't normally made wrapless and any that are on the market have a huge mark up.

Linen wrap is the way to go. But you tend to forget what type of wrap or non wrap cue you have when your really focused on playing pool I find.

I really hope it will be like nothing and it won't feel overly strange. I've already set my mind on getting the stick some time in the near future, just not sure if I'm going to pay the premium on finding a wrapless one. After I get my table, I may just buy a wrapped cue and try out different linen and leather wraps to see what I can get used to.

I hold the cue very lightly, and for that reason I absolutely must have a wrapless cue. Linen is just way too slick, even after it's been broken in, so with my light grip the cue will slide a little through my hand on some shots.

Like the OP I used wrapless for nearly my entire pool career. Then I bought a linen wrap cue and had those problems so I tightened my grip, and my pool game regressed a bit. I adjusted some, but I still wasn't entirely comfortable since I had 10+ years of experience and learning on a wrapless cue and just 4 months with a wrap cue. So I went back to wrapless, improved immediately, and haven't looked back since.
