For the longest time I have been trying to make my grip thumb point straight down.
It just ain't working. I could practice this for a 100 hours on the stroke trainer and on my backstroke my cue has a tendency to come closer to my body. The square stance works better, but not on my back. I have tried every conceivable stance and grip with no success.
So yesterday I said f**k it, I am going to try something new. So ala Earl the Pearl and some other prominent pool players, I turned my wrist to its natural position, where the thumb points at an angle, inward towards my body. Got much better results. BTW, in order to defend the stroke trainer, if you use this wrist position you are supposed to put your wrist on the other side of the guide, and let your knuckles or whatever be the guide.
I am convinced that people's wrists are built dramatically different. I am very single jointed and my wife is very double jointed, and her thumb points straight downward. The 'V' on hand (as in golf) points in a different direction than mine. If this is a clue to anything, please theorize.
Thanks, WW
