Hi all,
im looking for antique/vintage/rare/old pool/billiard related items to add to my collection. Im not looking for a antique table or so, just any old poolitem that fits in my collection..

i cant really say what im looking for, untill ive seen it.

untill now ive got:
fully carved wooden box with set of 3 perfect ivory balls from pre 1900
a cue from pre 1900 that has the bottle shape
a retractible chalk holder from 1900's
a cast iron cue holder from victorian period.
very old chalk's
old score counter from 1930's with a push system

i dont know what im looking for... but im just giving a shoot that i got some $ that im willing to spend for my collection.. maybe a VERY old wooden rack with iron corners, or a very old brush, or.... pfff really NO idea. something they used to fit tables from the 1900's, ... anything thats old and very unusual to find (i dont need brunswick cue's, brunswick ball racks, those u can find by hundreds on ebay...)

so ... i hope someone finds something interesting.

i pay with paypall, and ive got a 100% feedback on ebay.

PS OW!! i might be looking for some VERY old clay poolball's (the more beaten up the better :p pure for the looks, and a full perfect clay ball set for the value it might get later.)
 
Here is a very interesting item you wont see every day. You may have seen this on ebay the one time I had it on there recently. Bids did not reach the reserve.

This is a very neat smokers caddy that was placed on the tables next to the pool tables at the very fine billiards establishments or just in the home of a well to do gentlemen/lady.

The first picture shows the back view and you will see all sides in the pictures that follow. Click on the thumbnails to enlarge. Notice the three billiard balls and the crossing cues.

The cup to the left was used for hot ashes from the cigarette/cigar. The one in the middle is for holding cigarettes and the last cup is for tobacco to roll your own. Used in the 1800's to early 1900's.

I purchased this from an estate sale a few years back and that is the decription I was given. I am asking $450.00 or best close offer.

thats a very unusual item. not sure if its something that fits in my collection. i dont know how to exactly define what im looking for, basicaly when i see it, i know if it fits or not. This is more tabaco related to me then poolrelated. a jewelry box with a cue design on it, for me is a jewelry box.

ps im sad too, there where 5 items i was going to bid on ebay, and i missed the day. :( they where sold ridicilous prices ).

one was a VERY old wooden foldable cue repair lathe, with a manual mechanism in cast iron, loaded with springs etc. from the 1900's it looked AMAZING !!! DAMN i hate myself when my internet falls down.

keep the idea's coming :)

it was sold for a miserable 50$ :'( ill post a picture tonight if i can find the link again.
 
clay balls

I have some clay balls in a bag under my desk. (wow, that sounds like it could have a double meaning). There are ten of them and if you want them you can have them for the shipping. Let me know. Later ---- Jon
 
Let me preface what I'm about to say by saying that I am not trying to "sell" you on this piece, but just commenting on your take on what a billiards collectible is.

With that said, I find it interesting that you have sort of narrowed the scope of this type of collecting. Forever, billiards has had a stigma attached that made it a bit taboo for the so called, straight and narrow individual. It has been looked at as a shady activity unless you are playing in your home or a boys & girls club. At one time, women and children were not even allowed in pool rooms. For those reasons and more, there are a lot less collectible items for billiards than there are for most other collectible items. Almost anything that is antique/vintage billiards related is considered collectible just because of it's scarcity.

Using your definition of a billiards collectible you would rule out all of the following very coveted billiards collectibles:

Postcards
Letters fom Brunswick and other highly regarded maufacturers
Pictures (Can be valued at hundreds of dollars)
Paintings (Up to $2-3000.00+)
matchboxes
matchsafes
pocket mirrors
tokens
trophies (Can be hundreds)
dexterity games
can openers
tobacco canisters ($100.00 to $700.00)
statues
shaving mugs (up to $1500.00)
spectator chairs (Can be hundreds)
and much, much more.

It's okay to focus on just a segment of a collectible category, but it's also fun to keep you mind open to other things as well.

Enjoy your collecting but watch your pocket.

these old beaten up balls are hard to find in europe. at least in my country, but they are sooooo cool to look at :D
i hardly EVER see a billiard related item for sale here thats older then 20y. (exept the ivory pool balls :) )

can u let me know how much the shipping will be, and maybe a picture?

u are totally right!!! (exept the tokens :p they look cool. we dont have tokens over here... :) but for the rest you are right.

am i collecting for the $?
.... honestly, yes my first item was purely to make some $ to finance a cue. :rolleyes:
.....Untill i fell in love with it.:eek: i almost sold it (twise) when i had some financiel problems, but luckily i found another way to get the $ i needed. now my collection is slowly growing, and im not doing it for the $. Well almost not, im not going to overpay a item just because i like it. usually my items i pay them around 50$. exept the ivory balls, who are worth 10x what i payed. it has to be the perfect combination of what I find beautiful, that i think would stand nice in my future poolroom (its more decoration to me)AND it has to sell for at least the amount i payed for it (thats the deal i made with my girlfriend), in case im in some financiel problems. I told her its like puting $ in a bank, but instead my instead of a number on a paper, i see my money in items and as a bank it slowly increases in value. but DAMN, its alot nicer to watch then a bank account. (at least thats what i told the g/f :p)

maybe its my architecture/designer backgrounf that looks more at it as nice keyfeatures to give a room some more "charm" combined with my pasion for pool and unknow (old) things. (im only 30 )

it seems you know alot about antiques. Maybe you would like me to help you find things in europe, and you could help me find things in america. anyway, feel free to pm anytime. :)

This is a little big to shipping overseas --- about 12 ft tall and who knows how heavy (all metal).
