How about an upstart custom.

This is one of the first cues I made with veneered points.

Asking $200 plus shipping

You can't get much for what you're looking to spend. Try a nice Lucasi. They are production and considered cheap junk but they honestly hit real well.

Funny to hear me saying this but it's true. I could play with one no problem. Those Elite cues with the radial pin and j&j sneakies are also good buys for the small amount.

You could always find a nice house cue and get a maker to cut it with a big pin for cheap too.

Just my thoughts on what you could do for $200 or less. May just buy a Predator shaft and a crappy $50 butt.

Anyway, All these options will get you a good hitting cue.

Great Deal!!!

Better jump on the deal from Bill{rhymes} . That is great offer for a new veneered custom.
By the way that is some great looking veneer work for your first Bill.

I would also try local pawn shops. Just go in and if you see something, make sure to act like you are not that into pool. Hopefully the owner won't know whats up and you can get a smokin' deal.

Also, as mentioned before, maybe just match a shaft to a cheaper butt. Anything with a big pin can have a shaft made for it. Doesn't have to be a predator/ob/tiger shaft. People sell cue makers shafts all the time.

Thanks!

Thanks jlrowe! I'm just sorry that I used a rather plain piece of maple for the forearm. If I had known that my first attempt was going to come out that good, I'd have used a more figured piece:embarrassed2:

Curly Maple

It did come out great. Would have looked great if it had been Nice figured Curly Maple in butt and forearm:thumbup:

Depends on what you mean by "nice cue". If you really want a great player, and are not concerned with the flash, you should pick up a good sneaky pete or merry widow from a good cuemaker. You can get a real good sneaky or merry widow for $350-500.

If you a stuck on a 4 point cue with veneers, inlays, etc, then you are around that $1000 mark you spoke of, and it goes up, all the way to the moon.

I have a new, never chalked Meucci sneaky with a Red Dot shaft that I've had stashed away for 10 yrs.
I'll take $200 + s/h & fees.
If interested, send PM.
Thanx, KJ

Well Depends are you looking for aesthetics or playability...

I would go for playability. So you would need something custom designed to your specs. That may take years though. Ive been playing for 20 yrs and still experiment. I think your preferences change over the years. But you may luck out and get something already made that fits you almost perfect. I would suggest go with a plain jane or sneaky from a custom cuemaker. Later i think if you want to add some appeal Just have a four pointer with some nice veneer and ringwork done. very classy. There are some great cuemakers that present this forum that could build you a jam up four pointer with nice ringwork and veneers that wont break the bank.
Probably around 450. Believe me just because it is a collectors cue or piece of art doesnt mean it plays any better. Ive shot with a $12,000 szamboti and a $4,000 Burton Spain. Not mine of course couldnt afford it. Even though the szamboti shot very well i would prefer to play with my $225 custom with my specs. Once had a $100 huebler SP that felt like it was designed for me. Felt like my right arm. Then had another huebler i didnt like.

do you have the means to get the specs on it? not trying to put you out too much.
