Do yourself a favor, get a murnak or justis, two of THE BEST made in AMERICA. My opinion only, but the truth. Rich aka the skunk.
That is correct. Those two brands are in fact two of the best which are made in America. Both brands have some excellent features and are made by two fine gentlemen.
There are a lot of fine American case makers. Dan and Joe Whitten build one of the best cases on Earth. They are currently being knocked off by many companies eager to cash in on the iconic look that they built using very clever construction methods.
Another fine case maker is Dennis Swift. He puts together leather in a solid old-school way that lasts forever. I am sure that one of his cases will be found 500 years from now after pool is long gone from the earth and people will wonder what it was used for.
Garth Bair builds a decent case. If you will allow Canada to be on par with the USA then Al Kinghorn should be included in a group of top case makers. And Rusty, how can any one not mention Rusty Melton? He and Marc Turcasso can't decided who is going to be the heir apparent for Chas Clements style cases. I give the nod to Marc because of the way far out designs Marc comes up with.
My cases are made in China. But if you didn't know that then I'd be willing to bet a good penny that you'd not think any less of them in a side by side comparison with any of these great case makers I mentioned. The good thing about living on this little planet is that products aren't racist. They don't know that they are Chinese, or American, or African or German. They just either work well or they don't without any regard to where they were made. That's why I like products.
I like to pick them up and feel them, inspect them, marvel at the clever ways they are put together, admire the strong points and ridicule the weak points. I like to think about how I would make the product better if I made it. I like to get ideas from products about how to make mine better. Products don't have ignorant hangups or psychological problems that force them to judge themselves based on where they are made. The product just sits there and waits to be used or abused. How much abuse it can take depends on how well it's made and how well it's made doesn't depend on where it was made.
