I am sure this wont be an easy find, but thought I would ask. I am Looking for an old set and I would prefer the Cocobolo. I could make a set, but would love to find original. Thanks.

werent they just the diamond wood joint protectors? the black or the brown ones?

chris

I was told they were wood back then and made from cocobolo as an option. I am 95% sure the set on my cue were cocobolo. I found this cue after a 15 year separation, but the protectors were long gone. Would love to find a set.

Thanks for the input.

I have both sets of the diamondwood but I have never seen anything else..

Schon Did Make Cocobolo Sets

I'm not willing to part with mine but I do have a set of protectors that I ordered from Schon that was shipped with my cue order. The set consists of three protectors: 1 cue butt & 2 shaft protectors all in cocobolo with a 5/16x14 thread. At least you know these protectors exist and best of luck with your search.

can you please post a picture of your set? are they solid cocobolo or are they laminated like we were discussing?

Chris,

I just took some photos of the protectors in the sunlight so that the color of the wood would stand out more. The indoor photos made the protectors look like a dark wood color, almost like ebony but they're not.

If you PM me your e-mail, I'll send you the photos. I just spent the last 35mins taking photos and attempting to get them posted without success. I made sure to shrink the file size down using Windows zip to smaller than 5K for each photo (total of 3 photos) but it wouldn't work.

Something like these? They have been in a case of mine for years

Somehow I have two butt protectors and only one shaft! The shaft is a bit lighter colored. They are a grey shade. One of the butt ones is dinged up some as well.

Lemme know if interested.

those are the only schon joint protectors i have ever known of.. there is also a black version and probably a more brown version also

here is a set of the original cocobolo color listed for sale with the cue they came with...

i doubt he will part with them without the cue.. but i thought it was a perfect example of what they look like...

they are deffinatly the diamond wood and in my opinion they are the same as the ones evan makes today for sale on the schon website.. although the ones on the site are the black versions...

anyways..
