did not quite mean to cause such a stir so let me elaborate a little further and answer to some comments.
I understand that a cuemaker is not a simple wood turner but a specialist.
that is why I ask here for what i needed. if a cue maker just puts a little bit of the same attention into what i was asking as he would normally into a cue, i will be very happy.
people have commented that i will not like the price of such pieces as boards have to be cut down etc. i also work with a goldsmith to produce some custom parts for the same product i need the dowel for. i know how much certain materials costs and i know how much work i am asking for.
paying a fair price is not a problem
I do not expect anyone to use their precious figured wood for this - surely people will some merry widow blanks that have developed a wobble or such. or pieces from a board that are not as nicely figured or whatnot. also bell forest sells 36" dowels, just not unfortunately ebony nor pink ivory. i bought some 36" tulipwood from them a while back but they do not seem to offer it any more.
and yes i meant pink ivory not pink ebony!
anyhow- found a gentleman who is able to sell me some coco and bocote,
just need ebony and tulip/p-ivory.
thanks for everyones helpful suggestions and sorry for long post
all the best
