Whoa! The guy won the World 8 ball championship recently! Hats off to Wu! Man, he won both championships in the SAME year and at the tender age of 16! whoohoo! great for the future of pool, i think he should be invited into the ipt. wu got lucky though in his match with thorsten hohmann... it was 9 - 9, hohmann shooting the 8 ball (the last ball of the match)... and it was straight to the corner pocket... and he missed the pocket totally... all i can say Wu's so lucky...hahahaha

What's wrong with the old Efren? We'll have to see how well Wu travels, I think everything he's won has been in his backyard. Congratulations none the less.

I think UAE is Pinoys' backyard, not Wu's..... :D

OUCH I feel bad for Thorsten....was it a long shot or was it a pretty easy shot he missed?

According to the article below, it was the easiest of 8 balls. Short distance and straight in. He supposedly just one-timed it, skipping his preshot routine and everything. Too bad. I guess Wu was just destined to win it.

But I wouldn't call Wu the next Efren just yet. I agree with Bruin, Efren is defined by the way he plays. His unparalleled creativity on the table, his ability to see shots that no one else can see, and his ability to pocket shots that are seemingly impossible are what defines Efren. There are others who may have more presitigious titles and tournament wins than Efren, but that doesn't make them an Efren-type player. But who knows, we haven't seen enough of Wu to make that comparison just yet.

From the report it looks like a very very very easy shot:

"When all the hard work was done, and the only ball remaining on the table was the 8, an easy, short distance, straight shot, Thorsten's routine went was completely forgotten as he got down quickly and slapped the ball into the corner pocket with a tiny bit of victorious energy.

A lovely ending to the story - Apart from the fact that the ball didn't even threaten the pocket, it didn't even hit the jaw of the pocket, but contacted the full back rail and bounced one and a half table lengths, eventually coming to rest in front of the side pocket.

The entire audience let out an incredulous gasp, an absolutely unthinkable result for a match at this level. The audience were abuzz with gossip, but composed of professional players, keen amateur players and die hard fans, most of them were very understanding and sympathetic. We've all been in that position and done the same thing at our local club or in a league tournament, but you don't expect a former World Champion to do it too, not when there's a spot in the Quarter-Finals at stake."

I didn't think it would be possible on a 9' table, but we might have a Stephen Hendry in Wu. Hendry won everything at a young age and just kept getting better. He owned the snooker world for years having an event trophy given to him for winning 4 or 5 years in a row. They said no one will ever repeat that achievement. He has many, many records and grew the interest in snooker with his unbelievable play.

How could Wu not be what 9-ball was waiting for and needed. Kids will want to play because they see someone their age winning, adults will want to play because they don’t want kids beating them. This might be the rebirth of pool. With the IPT money and this kid winning everything I can see big money and a real professional sport in pool now.

ok understandable.

Just one thing though, this was eight ball not nineball, so this would be what eightball needed not necesarily nineball.

Is this something like the mystery punch that took out Sonny Liston in his fight with Clay (he was Clay then). I'm sure he honestly missed it, but if it were boxing most of the world would say he took a dive. We all know a pool player would never do that.
