WWYD if Earl

Earl completed dogged this out to lose the Mosconi cup, he would have won the set and made the whole cup hill-hill if he got out. WWYD from here? 5, 6, 8, 9 left. I'll link the shot after a few responses.

Obviously just get out. I don't know why jocks don't see the futility of it. They're like lemmings into the pressure. Obviously as well, take it or leave it if it's your living.

Simple follow on the 5, CB off the end rail and straight back to about center table (touch of inside if needed).

I agree.

The only way I see it going any different is if you were not feeling confident on table speed. If this was the case you could stun or slightly draw into the 9 firmly and accept a longer shot on the 6. It would be an inferior shot but I could see it in certain circumstances. Of course you run the risk of putting the 9 in a tougher position. This shot could also go wrong in other ways, like glancing off the 9 and the CB going into the side.

You could also try outside and 2 railing for shape on the 6 but that shot is fraught with peril.

It's a bit tough to say without actually being at the table.

A possible problem I see here is if he tries right draw on the five to go two rails and bumps the nine. The most likely problem is if he lands straight on a shot.

Edit: Nope. Earl next shot the worst shot I've ever seen him play.

I see 1 rail to center, 2 rails forward to center, and 2 rails around the 9 to center. I think Earl was trying the one rail route, but maybe he was trying 2 rails forward?

Me personally, I would have probably gone 2 rails forward.

It looked like he didn't get as much follow as he wanted. I was going to give him the excuse of slippery cloth, but the table should have been broken in by then.

I probably pull that back under the 9. Come down the line for the 6.

Regardless, I'd punch one of my 500 bangers in the throat over that shot!

Pretty big speed error if so. Maybe just trying to miss the 9 on his way to center table and overdoes the inside?

I think the speed was right whether he was going 1 rail to center table (your shot) or 2 rails forward. If he was going 2 rails forward, the ball hooked more than he anticipated, before following, and/or he didn't have enough spin. If he was going 1 rail to center, he put a touch more of inside and it completely ruined the shot.

It would be interesting for someone to ask him what he was playing today, but I'd be scared he would punch the person. haha.
