Xiaoting Pan Bad Beat!!

Wow. That was close.

I'm not convinced the shirt touched the 9. I didn't see any compression of the fabric. The slow motion shows an almost 2 dimensional view as it all blacked out I guess due to the lighting. I think its possible the shirt could have been below the ball, but behind the ball instead of touching it.

That said, if its like many other sports, the ref's live decision would stand unless the instant replay conclusively showed otherwise.

I took a few screen captures of freeze-frames of the purported foul and used the "shadow/highlight" tool in Photoshop to bring out the edge of the 9-ball from the shadows, then enlarged them full-size on my monitor. It's still not completely clear, but it does appear to me that the offending mammary passed behind the ball and did not actually make contact at any time. I base this on the fact that it seems that the entire upper edge of the 9-ball is visible at all times. Real tough call, though, even with the help of PS.

can an opposing player waive off the ref call?

or touch the ball and say thats bs. you didn't foul.
you can have your turn back.

XTP demonstrated to my satisfaction anyway that it wasn't a foul. The latter of the close-up replays were her trying to replicate the respective positions of her cleavage when the foul was called, and you can clearly see the illusion of touching replicated; she was explaining to the refs that it is the camera angle (from slightly above the ball) and the fact that the right side of her body was closer to the camera.

In any case, you can see that the foul was called well before she was truly down on the shot.

Also, on the previous shot on the 5 ball, the ref sharked her with the 10 second call, right as she was pulling the trigger. Normally I see the refs forgo the 10 second warning if the player is already down on the shot.

You needn't have gone through the trouble. If you look at 1:16:14, from that angle you can clearly see blue between her and the ball.

Just as the rules err on the side of "if in doubt, it goes to the shooter"...
I think the ref should operate the same way. She shouldn't have called it unless she 100% saw a foul.

Not "well from that shooting angle her boob probably is brushing that ball,
I think I see it very close and I think it's possible it's touching".

You try not to give up ball in hand to the other player based on "I think" or "probably".

Maybe she actually DID see it 100%, and the camera is deceptive and doesn't show it as clearly.
From that short distance and her viewing angle it may have been plain.

This is the precise moment the foul was called. You be the judge:

Wow. Points to Xiaoting for composure. Including the congratulatory handshake.

I watched this match

Last night and was shocked to see how badly XTP played. She missed 3 or 4 balls in a row that were just pounded into the rails. She missed so badly that as I watched I had a feeling something else was going on.

I also think the referee made that call because she wanted to call the foul, IMO. I can't say for sure or not if there was contact, but the ref had to know that when she made that call that she was deciding the match.

XTP did show great composure, after missing so badly those easy shots and then after the match. She gets no extra kudos for shaking her opponents hand at match end. Her beef wasn't with her anyway. If she had one, it was with the ref.

Do keep in mind that it was a group stage match, and XTP was already in to the next stage, while the her opponent was out. But still, XTP = class act all the way.

This was the same tournament where Jennifer Baretta got dicked over by the refs, and I have to say that my reaction as an American was outrage, and as a fan of Taiwanese pool and a former expat living in Taiwan: sheer embarrassment.
