question

I am ignorant when it comes to cnc......so this would need what still? ---router or spindle--wiring---computer ---software, headstock--tailstock for cues and then a motor for it? I don't know if I am missing anything else....so if you got whatever else it needed and you did the good, better, best equipment scenario and just stuck with the good equipment approximately how much more would you be spending if you started with the 18 x 36?

Thanks,

Joe

Randy, do you know if that 36 is bed dimension or working dimension? Do you have one, would these work ok for tapering?
Thanks!

The Z clearance looks short.
Might wanna go with the Raptor instead.

z is 4 inches of travel. If that is the total clearance then you wouldn't have room for a Hardinge type indexer, but a sherline or the like should just make it. .

You can get a longer bed. Leon Sly is getting a 12x40 to compliment his Raptor. I'm sure he worked out the details with George before he ordered.

As far as the other pieces needed. An enclosure with an "oh @#$@" button, computer, Mach, cables for steppers, some sort of rotary axis. figure about another grand or so, depending on what you buy...

Mounting on a dovetail and 80/20 alum, that'd be short of clearance I think .
12 by 40 sounds really good.

How about simply a piece of .75-1.00 Mic 6?
I doubt you'd have a problem using a spindle to drill some holes or slots for mounts..
BTW. I have a mint Hardinge HV-4C with tailstock that I'll consider selling.

I was going to use it on my small Rong Fu mill, but I'm going to finish fixing the Sharp and then sell all of it.

Also have a Moon cutter that's never used and some other stuff.Sherline cnc indexing controller...

I'll keep it short and simple these machines are the nuts....NEXT ON THE MENU 12X40 AND I CAN'T WAIT.

I'm doing all my point work~~~

truing up my point stock~~~

cutting the miter on the veneers~~~

all my inlay work~~~

all my engraving~~~

cutting all my v grooves~~~

and many other things~~~

That is OK Joey ... keep building yourself up as as a CNC expert by taking shots at me.
Im no expert but I did sleep at a Holiday In once ... and ... I can take it.
Just let me ask you one question.

You would need computer, Old used one with parallel port .
You would need spindle, Hitachi routers are good to learn on as they are cheap.
Run wire to controller from motors , E stop if using one and prox sensors.. i have complete wiring diagrams and is easy

The 4th axis you can send email and ill give you info on it.
