Sorry to hear about your experience at that tournament. Quite obviously, you support that Club more than just a once a year appearance for a tournament.
It is wonderful that the Yankee still holds that tournament, after all these years. They need events like this to help the Club survive. But really, isn't 50 players on four tables a bit much? What time did this thing get over? Having to wait more than two hours for a match on a one day tournament is taxing on the patience! To those that can do it, I toast my drink to ya. Seven hours does sound a bit much and I don't believe this guy is bashing anything. Sounds like someone who paid his entry fee to play some pool, played a match, sat quietly waiting to be called for his next match, didn't get called, asked when he would get called and was told he was on deck for the second calling or so, wasn't called and said the heck with this! Can you blame him? Doesn't sound like he is making it up. Then to challenge the guy to freeze up $500 to play $100 sets? Where's the gamble in that? Doesn't even make sense. Freeze up $2,3,4,500 and play 10 ahead or just play $10, 20, 50 a game till someone crys "Uncle" if you want to try and make a point of some sort. The Yankee folks are great and I've been going over there for more than 30 years and have done well in a number of their events. They try hard, but they are not perfect and are not professional tournament directors either. The mistakes they do make are ones that can be easily forgiven. And yes, they do feature what they determine as favorites more often in the early going than just following the chart as they are suppose to do. The temptation to do so is too inviting because of the sidebetting.
Beside that, this is a forum for positives and negatives. This guy had a negative experience and has expressed it. If you have had a positive experience, why not counter with that instead of nonsensical dribble.
If anyone knows the history of this tournament, they should document it and publish it. Must be 15 years now.
