sorry...but I just had a high break of 45!!! good for me!! hopefully one day I will do even better. Must have been a luck run.... because I lost the next frame.

Break began after 5 or six safeties....
red---straight in
black----cut in
red-----wow..still able to cut it
black---straight in...
red---off shape
green--only choice...snookered for black, pink and blue
red-----using longtackle
blue---ok...got it back to center table
red---ditto.. still in the center
blue---obvious choice
red----trying to get to a black...
pink---well almost as good as a black
red----yep...out of shape so back to the center
blue---boom...slammed in with screw....

next red.....not a shot in sight... had to play safe.....aww....

Sounds like you were struggling for position all the way through. Too bad though, next stop: half century!
Do you think you're ready for a real table yet?

nah.... but it would be nice!... anyways yeah, obvious problems controlling the white, but then again I have the same problem in 9-ball. I think it was one of those miracle moments never to happen again for awhile. Not bad though for the 3rd time on a 12ft.

I am now thinking more and more.... hey I should just give up on pocket billiards and do nothing but snooker.

anyways what is your highest break drsnooker?

143 in a refereed match a decade ago back home. Made a 104 in January, A 68 in July, but that's really all about what's note worthy. Practice doesn't count.... Obviously I don't practice enough if I want to make it good showing at the US championship. Planning on putting in some serious hours over the holidays though and then maintain a two hours a day schedule until the tournament.
I enjoy a little 8 and 9-ball in the local leagues here or there, but I'd easily give that up for a snooker league! Until then, I play the roulette on the poor tables and the slow felts, loosing more games than you'd expect.

Congratulations on the run, just think what you would have done if you were not struggling. Like drsnooker said, next stop is a half century.

If you want to do some travelling, come on up to Northern Ontario, I can always put my
honey-do list on hold. I have a Burroughes & Watts (1880's) in the basement. You could get a few days of quality practice in and I will finally get to play someone that is familiar with a 6x12.

Also here is an attachment to our local tourist attraction. Come on up and swim with the Polar Bears. http://www.polarbearhabitat.ca/Gallery.htm . Check out some of the pics of the kids swimming with the bears. Obviously there is a plexiglass between them.

drsnooker I obviously screwed up. The above post was suppose to be a quick reply to yours. While I'm at it GR the invite is extended to you also. I just want to play some snooker against someone that has played on something bigger than a 4 1/2 x 9.
Mike

Hey Mike thanks for the invite. I actually have friends in Madoc, On (between Toronto and Ottawa) that I have visited quite a few times. They have an 11 foot table. (I didn't think they made those but it really is.)
Obviously this time of year swimming in Canada isn't high on my list. But let me return the favor and invite you to come swim in the hot tub called the Gulf of Mexico. Both GR and I live in the Houston, TX area and I obvously have a twelve footer in my home. It's well loved and maintained and in perfect condition.

You actually swim in that doc? Have to give you rep for doing that!

I like the clean chlroninated water of the galveston schlitterbahn better, but either beats swimming with polar bears after hacking a hole in the ice!

yeah... I haven't been to that one yet. But then again... being a former competitive swimmer in High school, swimming now just seems like "work"

I have driven through Madoc on many occasions. When our daughter was younger she attended a University in Kingston. Travelling to or from there, we often drove through Algonquin Park, which also took us through Madoc.

To put things into perspective we live 450 miles straight north of Toronto. Just a hop skip and a jump from Houston. Thanks for the offer to swim in your hot tub, I'd love to but...

Glad to hear you have a snooker table. You mention your high run of 146 (impressive) back home. Obviously you grew up in Europe and exposed to snooker at a young age. You must have a hard time getting a game on your table. I could be wrong, but in the States most snooker tables would be 10 footers? For most going from a customary 9 foot table to a 12 footer can be a humbling experience. Years ago a collector I knew from the States met me in Toronto. He had never seen a 12 footer so I took him to a hall for a few games. Needless to say he was amazed at the size and could not believe it when at one point he had to use the rake to reach a shot across the width of the table.

The pool hall I grew up in had a 11 footer, which we referred to as an oversized 5x10. I could be wrong but your friends table is probably a Brunswick.

When swimming with the bears, it is done indoors, so don't let our temperatures scare you off. Actually it snowed overnight and we have about an inch of snow on the ground. The good thing is the ground is not frozen so it won't stay.

It was a 143. And yeah it was in the old country. I am going to need a strong opponent to get ready for the US championship. There are a couple of pool players I know that can compete, but are lacking in the tactical aspect of the game. And if you don't play a lot of snooker, it's hard to start seeing all the angles as well as knowing when not to try a shot and playing safe instead.

Yes I should have realized my 146 was wrong. I to have a high break of 143, but in practice. I do not try and fool myself and think of it as legit. Practice high runs are only that. The pressure added to a match with a decent opponent, makes all the difference in the world.

I envy you, to have a couple of players available that can compete. My closest competitor lives 70 miles away. I am curious, what kind of routines do you use in your practice sessions?

Mike

Practice drills? Well I start by just a warm up by playing a frame. Then 5 straight reds from the blue spot/cue ball on the baulk line on either side of the table. After that, 7 red drill left for 30 minutes, then right (30 mins), then line up (30 mins), then a couple of color clearence. Then alternating pink/blacks. That's usually it before it's time for bed....

Sounds like we have similar routines. I often vary the line up drill by having a cluster behind the pink and a few loose reds to be able to start the run with.

I?m not certain what the weather is like for you today, but here it went down to minus 13 last night. This part of the country is ideal if you fish, hunt, or snowmobile. I do not play outside, so I often wonder what I?m doing up here. Well the office is in my house, so I should be getting back to work, take care.
