You done worked my nerves people-

Hey Angel,

This is a great idea but people generally participate in forums because of specialized interests.

It is hard to promote another hobby effectively without being pushy.

I wonder though why I have never seen a single online ad for leagues outside of pool forums. The APA and other leagues should be the one advertising outside of pool. Why not an ad in Time magazine?

This is a good thread to come up with grassroots ways to promote pool. Got me thinking for sure.

Well, I may be putting the 'Kiss of Death' to this Thread by making a comment, (it seems that every time I comment on a thread it totally fades away) but here goes.

Anyone thought of "Beer" forums! It would seem that 95% of the people in a Pool Room are there to drink! and Pool is something to do while they are drinking. I can't believe that the Pool Industry hasn't tried to get Beer manufacturers more involved in the last couple of Decades. Remember the Steve Mizerak Beer commercials! "Just Showing Off"

"Beer" is something that almost all of us have in common regardless of the Sport or Hobby!

Just the other day I was cleaning out my coat closet...found an old Cuetec I had bought many years ago. Starting wondering what to do with it...decided to take it out to the garage, tie some line guides on...cut the tip off and drilled a whole in the ferrule, then epoxied a rod tip into the hole. Got an old Shakespeare spinning reel...piloted a few holes then screwed the reel onto the rod buttsleeve/grip area. Spooled the reel with some 30 lb. test Trilene and tied on the largest crankbait I could find in my tackle boxes.

First attempt at casting.....missed my target by 20 feet. :o Never could put the bait anywhere near the target...must have been the synthetic cladding on the shaft/rod ;). Maybe I should have worn a glove !!!

This setup sucked as a fishing tool....but made a great conversation piece. I ended up giving it to a buddy of mine (why he would want it is beyond me).

Does that qualify as a fishing/pool related story???

Perfect set-up for snagging spoonbill catfish at KY lake. You need at least a 4oz sinker to get the rod,er pool cue to load up when casting it. John B.

I got flamed out of a Porsche forum for promoting pool...no kidding! A Mustang forum has been more tolerant, but I doubt I got anybody to pick up a cue.

Just tell all of the Alpha males that most men cannot play pool at a high level, that it requires motor skills that most average men don't possess.

Dan Dishaw

Now I'm the bassist in a pool players forum. What can I do to get you guys grasp a bass? Not much I think. What I could do is maybe I can start a bassist-pool players thread here at the azb. I remember seeing such combinations over at talkbass.com too. I bet there's enough people who have several hobbies/interests on all sorts of forum sites.

The question is, what could be done to get people like myself involved in pool more? Keep pool interesting for the ones who love it but not primarily pool players?

Dan Dishaw is a cue builder but he is also luthier (guitar builder)
And Hideo (Japanese Cue collector, bass player)
Perhaps they should be included in this conversation as I am not a musician but am great at bringing people together.
