You get one shot

You have a tough match coming up on a table you have never played on. You only have a few seconds, just enough time to shoot one shot to help you learn a bit about the table before your match starts. What shot do you shoot? Please use Wei table if your shot requires much explanation.

Aaron

3-rail kick corner to corner medium speed.

I like to kick a few rails to see how long or short it plays and to see if the cueball hops of the rail at all. Jimmy Mataya told me one time he used to spend a half hour a day just rolling the cueball around with no object balls on the table.

I, too, like the 3-railer, if it's a 9ft playing 9/10 ball/1p. if i'm on a random bar table playing 8-ball, i put the cb in a 1/2x1/2 diamond spot and aim at the diagonal opposite full diamond with a touch of running english, hit medium/firm - it *should* head the middle diamond on the starting short rail.

Probably a long two rail lag, it would be a good indicator of cloth and rail speed. Most shots are shot at a slower pace, at least for me. rackem! LOL

I'm slow rolling a ball in full table, period. I gave up on assuming a table rolls straight.

Finally someone agreed with me. You're not going to get the rails down on one shot people.

Hitting a ball at lag speed will help you gain the speed of the table in a MEASURABLE way that you can compare to other tables you've played on (since I'm assuming you've hit a lag shot on another table).

The amount of knowledge you're going to gain by hitting the ball three rails is minuscule unless you practice that very same shot on other tables, and hit it at roughly the same speed every time.

Which I do actually! I do "practice" that - or play that particular shot - on every table I play at. And ofc with the same speed every time, close to the same speed anyway.
