I’m flipping tv channels up in the sports area of my cable package and on two of the espns are the following:

Rock Skipping Tournament

Belt Sander Racing

This has to be a new low point for pool that we can’t get anyone to televise our sport but they choose things like this instead.

very recently l was sad over there being so much cornhole coverage on tv and now this; Man oh man do we need someone to make the case again for pool to be back on tv.

Is it our demographic that's holding us back, it being almost exclusively 55+ yo males?

I think about the excitement of Mosconi Cup or the just-finished TS final between Sky and Jayson; these seem like they would be perfect for tv.

Cornhole over pool on tv = sad

Rock skipping and belt sander racing on tv over pool = despondent

Can it be fixed?

Best,

Time buys. Those events are being televised because they’ve paid to be televised. Same for Corn Hole outside of early-mid 2020 when sports were on hiatus. Mind you, they’re not on the main channels, they’re on the dregs of the sports channels

Not a dreg sport channel; it was on espn2. It was, however, a non prime time slot - 730 and 8am Saturday. Not awful but not prime.

Engagement is critical for growing the community. How about a spectator activity to attract people?

Bingo Pool: A spectator hobby for live/streaming pool matches. Bingo pool cards are sold and then prizes given to winners.

The bingo card would have like corner pocket 1 ball, side pocket 2 ball, ....

If the pockets in pool were numbered than there would be 54 permutations of how a rack can be played.

Pool rooms could bus in the seniors have them put up their bingo money and then keep the excitement alive from rack to rack.

There is nothing to do during a pool match because no one has created those opportunities.

You just need hot dogs, chili, a little southern bbq and beer,,,,, problem solved.

Can you imagine that Shaw vs Sky final on TV with a raucous Mosconi like crowd? That would have been epic. At least I got to watch it on my phone while making dinner.

During production you want the camera to switch to people eating and drinking, that is not going to work.

With Bingo pool the camera will switch over to old people getting excited about winning pool giveaways.

The camera loves people getting excited. It will look a lot better than some cleaning BBQ sauce off their face,

Eating hot dogs is tricky one for the camera, it has to be done tastefully.

Nono, you have to mic it up. It involves the pre-shot routine of lifting of the leg and the sound of the farts
while capturing the look on their faces. You get a bonus if you light the sucker.
If you don't lift the leg properly it could result in a misfire or miscue.

Pool is boring to watch. I would like a Pool Biathlon where during odd games 1,3,5 they fire rifles and see
who could blow apart the most orange 5 balls. I have my money on the Southern Boys, and Fatboy.

And no its the age of the players in Pool thats holding the sport back, its the fact that it requires skill. Anybody that can count can play poker, anybody that can find a rock and some water can.., darts, corn hole, tag, agility dogs, spike ball, skill level required for the people participating,
2 on a scale of 10.

I dont understand why Pool isnt covered at least on the amature level? TAP, APA, BCA, Valley have a tremendous following. Black Ball has a great league and has a growing number of players across Africa even in the countries were the resources for equipment isnt good. It seems like that would get someones attention at ESPN if "rock skipping" can!
