Pool halls are smokey, in my local hall, nearly everyone smokes. It's always smokey, I come home smelling like smoke everyday. I'm wondering if there is a majority of pool players that smoke or that do not smoke...let's find out.

I smoke but I am planning on smoking my last smoke Friday :) I know I can do it. I have done it before.

The only single drawback to my playing used to be the think cloud of smoke that would choke a chicken.

Thank goodness NJ bars went smoke free.

secondhand Smoker!!

It is a fact secondhand smoke is like you are smoking . Just smell your clothes at the end of night in bar league or room.

These places have so-called smoke abatement systems. There is no safe levels of exposure to the poisonous, cancer causing , heart destroying air pollution. 50% of US population are presently protected and this is escalating.

I can't see why I have to smoke your Cigarettes unwillingly.

Guess what ,relief is coming in PA. senate, 31 Jan. 07 reported out of committee a smoking ban to be voted and debated on. Las Vegas just put a ban in place. except casino areas , that is called gradual plan to lead to total ban.

I used to be a 3 to 4 pack a day smoker, many years ago, and I quit.
By quiting, I freed up a lot of money for things that I wanted, including cameras and pool cues. It has also been beneficial to my health. :D

With all of the non-smoking laws being passed today, I'm happy I quit years ago.

I humbly encourage you to quit. I smoked from 1960 until last year. Today is day # 357. I have not smoked 7,140 cigarettes and saved $1,428.
Best of luck to you.

Still smoking. I can't get that "monkey" off my back. I'm hoping to quit soon. Wish me luck.

I think Texas/Houston has a smoking ban but everwhere I go, I still come out smelling like an ashtray. Sucks.

Waydashake, Purdman. I started in 63. Maybe I can kick it too.

I only smoke when I drink. I seem to be drinking alot lately. It seems silly that I do that but whenever I drink I want a ciggarette. I would like to quit both and someday I will. I really like Summit beer tho'. Our state tourny is going smoke free this year so maybe that will help me.

It's [smoking] kind of selfish, don't you think?

Not only for taking time away from your own life, but for taking that time away from your kids, family, and the rest of the world who wants you here.

I hate the nasty unhealthy smoke filled pool rooms!

And personnally I can't wait until Georgia legislators get the balls to ban all smoking in public places of business, they have implemented various "no teeth" attempts to both promote some kind of law while also not upsetting voters ! this does not work you either are for it or for a healthy environment for the populace!

The other night a young couple was visiting another player during the pool league. The girl pulled out a cigarette and another girl started a discussion about the brand that they smoke. The girl said when she started to smoke she was smoking brand x but they gave her a headache so she keep changing until she found the kind she now smokes. I looked at her and asked "The cigarettes gave you a headache but you kept on smoking? Don't you think that the headaches were a warning of some kind?" Her husband said when he started to smoke he got nose bleeds. I guess they were made for each other.

As I am writng this my eyes are puffed up and my nose is stuffed from the smoke in the bar last night during pool league.

The sad thing about bars is people go there to smoke. A pool playing buddy goes to the bar every day for happy hour because he can get a beer for $1.00. I told him he could come to my house, play pool and it wouldn't cost him anything. He replied "Yeah but I can't smoke at your house, and that is the main reason that I go to the bar is because my wife won't let me smoke in the house either."

Smoking is a physically chemically addictive habit that produces long term health problems. There is no question about the ill effects of cigarette smoking and also the ill effects of "secondary smoke". The smokers' claim that they are being wrongly discriminated against along with the business owners who state that a ban on smoking will negatively impact their business. They are right in that it will but only on a short term basis so long as all public places face the same legislation banning smoking.

I am not against individuals smoking as long as non smokers are not subject to second hand smoke in public places. In California the ban on smoking has not affected the pool room business because most of the smokers occupy the tables closest to the entrance and step outside for a puff. The weather is not that big an issue so the inconvenience factor is not that great.

In other areas of the country some rooms may have expensive electronic air purification systems that do help but is not ideal and requires regular maintenace to keep the systems effective in reducing the smoke levels. At the end of the night you still have that objectionable smell of smoke on your clothing and hair regardless.

I am sure you can hemi and I hope you do. It really isn't that hard once you've made up your mind. I chewed the gum for about a month. I did not follow the instructions. It said to chew 2 every 2 hours. I chewed 4 the first couple of days. Then 3 and then 2. At the end of the month, I was finished. I would take a couple with me to the pool room and the bar just in case. A strong resolve and a little effort did it for me. Good luck my friend.

I quit smoking 9 years ago. whew!!!!

Our City Council was wise enough to ban smoking in all public places including bars, restaraunts, casinos and pool halls.

Contrary to what the alarmists were claimed would happen, people still go to these places.

Hey Purdman,
Thank you for the wishes of luck. I started smoking when I was 13 years old and I am now 28. I have been smoking for over half of my life and I have quit for periods of time before. When I started smoking - it was 1.95 a pack. Yesterday I paid 6.00 even for a pack. There are two things that are motivating me to quit. One is the health of my body and the other is the health of my bank account. It is 2200.00 bucks a year to smoke at 6.00 a pack. How stupid it would be to keep going. My wife and I are quitting together. I know we can do it. Anyways thanks again for the encouragement.
