What a freaking grail, granted not a cue he used in either movie but clearly a gift from a racing sponsor that he had authenticated by Tascarella.

Hell, I would pay $100 bucks just to cradle it for 10 minutes!

Is this the real deal? I never have ever been on ebay.
Not eBay, it's a live auction in NY that is using that website to let people place proxy bids which would be considered "remote bidders" the day of the auction.

I've bought a few cues off the site but mostly it's a pain to deal with because you have to be prepared to make your best bid and then walk away till after the live auction and find out if someone in the room out bid you.

Thanks! Not good with this sort of stuff.

One of Newman's watches, a Rolex Daytona, cost a buyer $17.8 million at an auction about 6 years ago. A Balabushka should be worth more than some production watch, right? ;)

if you read carefully the cue was made by PETE TASCARELLA not by GEORGE BALABUSHKA
at least thats how i read it
still would be great to own
No, the Auction house screwed that up!

If you go to the last picture of the listing there is a really good photo of Tascarella's authentication letter where he says "This cue was made BY GEORGE in the early 70's"

No, it's Balabushka, owned by Paul Newman...

Damn. Total steal. Kicking myself.

That is half or maybe less than what I would have thought it would sell for, $9,500 for a world class collectible cue is a steal for sure. Not sure if any other cues can eclipse this, maybe the only equal would be the cue Mosconi used most in his career or set the 14.1 record with.

Something is a little strange with the auction pics and info on this cue. I just visited the auction website( https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/156367998_group-of-paul-newman-pool-ephemera ) and looked very closely. The brass plate says 1989 and so does the date of paperwork(May 11 1989) from Tascarella. However Tascarella states the age of the cue to be in the "early 1970's" (and i tend to believe that just looking at it/style of bottom of butt, etc). Tascarella's paperwork also states in the cue "Description" ... and a blank mother of pearl engraving plate". I just am wondering how or why this particular cue was chosen to be gifted. Was it a used cue or something else? A cue someone ordered but never picked up? A cue George made but maybe for some reason held on to it for 20 some years and let it go cheap? Was it a craftsman's reject of some kind? I'm wondering what you guys think. Does anyone know who bought this cue at auction?

Hi JV. what a coincidence. I just posted about the cue. Are you the new owner? I looked at your website but didn't see these cues. Are you selling these too?
No, we did the owner a solid and picked up the cue for him to make sure that he received the items by someone that knew how to ship and pack them. 2 of the other cues in the picture are sold. I believe the Newman cue was a gift and the person probably went to John Wright or someone to obtain it.

I've hit balls with several real Buska cues and other then a collector standpoint there is nothing special or magical the way they play.
