Your first break and run

Hmm can't seem to remember my first out but I do have one that sits particularly well in my mind. This one was near the beginning of my pool days when I was really learning how to play like 3 or 4 years ago. It occurred at one of the small campus tournaments we had at my campus pool hall. We were all friends and the person I drew in the tournament was a good friend who really wasn't a good player but knew how to play. The game was 9-ball and it was a short race to 4. We decided to play a game to see who broke first in the set instead of lagging. This was a really small tournament that had like 10 people so taking the extra time to play a practice game didn't really matter. He let me break first for this practice game and I sank the 9 in the corner pocket. We decide to just spot the 9 and give me ball in hand. I then proceed to run out the table.

Anyways, the only reason this sticks out in my mind was because a girl I was trying to impress hung around in the pool hall and shot a little bit too. Needless to say she was watching and her reaction to me winning twice like that made me feel pretty good at that time. I mean it wasn't anything special but for someone still learning how to play and having a certain person watching really made my day. Plus, I think I won the tournament so that was a bonus too.

Like many, I really don't remember much about my 1st run, until it was over... because I only focused on each shot at hand (not the run). I was not aware until it was over and someone had to tell me that I had just run the table. It was back in the mid 70's on a bar box.

However I can remember (in great detail) my best run. It was in 1989 at a place that I still go to shoot and the table is still there. The 9' "Medalist" was tuned perfectly and I had just watched "The Color of Money" on VHS for about the 10th time the night before.
I was shooting 9 ball against my long time playing partner, really feeling each shot and had run a couple of racks that night. After my buddy commented on my accuracy, I thought about that scene where Cruise is shooting and makes a shot while looking Newman in the eye (and talking to him at the same time). "And if everyone's doing it... then everyone's doing it!"
So... I did the same to my friend on a bank shot which fell dead center pocket. Again and again I kept looking him in the eye (just to see how far it would go before I missed).
In the end I made 14 (called) shots in a row while looking my opponent in the eye on each shot and in between I had run a rack while looking away on each shot (even the break).
(maybe) THE GREATEST NIGHT OF BILLIARDS IN MY LIFE!!!
