Your first break run out

Do any of you guys remember your first break run out in 9-ball?

I was about 17 years old and was still someone that no one took notice of on the table. I hung around the good players crowd but I shot with the low level players. Occasionally I'd get into a game of 9ball or One hole with a good player, they'd give me a good spot and rob me blind.

Anyway, one day I was at the pool hall in the afternoon and this guy that was a regular there came in. He was a good player but he was known for having a short temper. He came up to where I was playing and asked if I wanted to play any 9-ball for 10 bucks a set. I don't remember the spot he gave me but I'm sure it wasn't anything that would hurt him. So we lag for the break, I won the lag, broke the rack and got my first break run out. I remember being so happy that I had finally run out from the break. The guy working the counter was watching and he had a big smile on his face. I thought he was happy for me but then I turned and looked and the guy that had asked me to play had broken down his cue and was walking away. He left. I didn't get the 10 bucks for the forfeit either. No big deal.

I remember mine very well...

Actually I had no idea I even ran it out. I broke the balls, my phone rang, answered it, talked while shooting the whole way through. I made the 9 and my friend says " Hey do you realize what you just did?"
I said no, what? He said you just broke and ran out a whole rack with a phone on your ear. I looked at him funny, looked down at the table then at my phone and said, ya I guess I did. :)

First run out ever

my first BnR felt as good as BPG24's avitar. And to this day its still the same, nothing feels as good as getting out on a tough rack, not a connect the dots.

A guy who I consider my billiard mentor came by to play after we visited the Super Billiard Expo to walk the vendor booths.

He racked em up for me, and I ran out. I don't know who was prouder of the accomplishment. I think secretly maybe he was.

If there was a spot involved, did you run to the spotted ball or did you continue the run after you had already made your spotted ball?

Personally, I don't think I ever gambled at 9 ball before I had my first break and run.

Nah, he must have given me some games or something. I know ran the entire rack. As for gambling before having the break run out, I never gambled because I thought I could win, I looked at it more like taking a lesson. Putting some cash up got me to the tables with the better players. Even now I never get into a gambling match unless I know exactly how much I can lose and I make it clear before we start. "If I get down 50 bucks I'm done because that's all I have on me" I've never been so cocky to believe that it's a lock.........and I hardly ever gamble with anyone lower level with me and if I do I give them a fair handicap. No one can ever say I took advantage of someone.

Sounds like a smart way to gamble. I don't gamble that much, but then again, I really don't play much anymore either.

I was pretty sure you made the runout to the 9; I was just curious if you kept going after the spotted ball because usually you wouldn't uinless it was your first runout.

In the same situation, even with a spotted ball, I would have told my opponent that I wanted to finish the run if it were my first runout.

Sadly I don't remember mine, because at the time it happened I wasn't even aware!

I was playing with two friends on a table. Winner kept shooting, and the loser sat out the next game; a common scenario among friends. I had won the previous game, broke, ran out... and didn't even realize it. It wasn't until my friend Arnell said, "You broke and ran!" that it hit me. Finally a perfect game!

All I remember is an aggressive combination when there was no goo safety in my then immature game (remember those days when even the impossibly hard shots were worth taking?). Somehow I made it and the rest is history.

The funny thing is that I felt bad for my friend who never got a shot in the game, then had to sit out the next game. But it was worth it!

There was a bar in Cincinnati called Woody's that had 2 bar boxes in the back. My friend and I used to go there all the time. One time I made a 4 ball combination, cut, cut, cut, cut, across the width of the table, potting it into the side pocket. Probably the greatest shot I ever made. Nowadays I wouldn't even consider thinking about considering that shot. I was probably 19 at the time.

I remember my first 9 ball out; leauge game. The individual I was playing was not happy.

I am more proud of the first time I strung two 8 ball racks together. Race to three for like 10 bucks; nothing big. Guy broke, ran two missed. I ran out, broke, ran out, broke and ran out.

Not a tough ball in three straight racks. I think they were all stop, stop, stop.

My best run at 9-ball was 7 racks. That has to be my all time favorite. I will give credit to the surroundings too though. It was opening night of a new pool hall. All brand new Gold Crown IV tables, Simonis 760 cloth. My break was solid that night and I was making 3 and 4 balls on the break each time. Not hard to run out when you're only running 5 and 6 balls at a time and the first ball is landing in a good spot for you. Luck played a huge part in that. On the 8th rack I actually made 5 balls on the break and the CB came to rest up against the back of the 5 and I couldn't see the lowest ball on the table.......I think it was the 2.

On the table next to me was a person, who I think, is the best player around this area. He was watching and when it was over he came over and shook my hand. We've been friends ever since.

i remember mine. i had to switch the times of day that i worked so i could only play on weekends. so for the first time in like 6 months i didn't play every day. the run out consisted of two slopped shots but i got out.

Yes! I remember breaking, making a ball and making the other 6 balls and then potting the 8. Can't remember anything else except that all the team mates gave me a dollar for the break and run.

This is as stupid as the reporter asking the running back to describe his touchdown run. Dah! The ball was given to me and I ran down the field and scored.

he said 9 ball

I don't really remember my first or my first few for that matter but I do remember the first one where I didn't slop any balls in at all. Most of the run outs I had before this involved at least getting lucky at one point. I distinctly remember breaking, making a ball and playing exact position on every shot until I was staring at a straight in shot on the 9. That was the greatest feeling I've ever had playing pool.
