Your First Run-Out

I'm not sure, its been to many years. I'd guess though it did not take very long for 8 or 9 ball. I do remember the appx year I run 3 racks of 8 ball one handed and the guy pulled up. During that time I also run 6 and out playing Golf on a 12 footer from the break. I'd already done it less than a hand full of times on a 10 footer though.

I think to the OP it will happen and it will happen many times to come. That is if you take the game serious and learn well from your mistakes. Mistakes happen a lot it the early years and they still do but much less for long time players. As I said, instead of getting mad or frustated learn why it went wrong. If you keep doing the same things over and over and expect different results. well you know

My first 8-ball B&R was about 9 months after I started playing more "seriously" (LOL aka got my own cue and started playing league :embarrassed2: ). Actually I didn't even notice it the first time, my opponent pointed it out to me. I was just focused on making each shot and moving to the next and winning the game. I've had a handful, not many, but a handful of B&R and runouts playing both 8 and 9 ball. Like some of the others have said, I've rattled the last ball way too many times to count. But you know, I remember those more than I remember the run-outs and B&R's.

Long time!

8 Ball - took me over 20 years, and yes it was a big deal when it happened. Although I found that the novelty wears off surprisingly quickly, and I now I sometimes don't even notice B&Rs.

9 Ball - never done it.

3 months looks pretty impressive to me, no matter how the balls were laying!

lOOK SON I AM 70YR, ASK A QUESTION ABOUT YESTERDAY????:D :D :D

I played a pretty consistantly for probably 4 months when I was about 21 (28 now), and couldn't run out regularly. After that I stopped really playing until about 7 months ago. For the past 7 months I've taken it pretty seriously, and can run out a rack of 8 ball if the balls spread the nicely probably 70-80% of the time.

The funny thing is, for about 4 of the last 7 months I practiced 8 ball all the time, and my game really didn't take off. The last 3 months I've been playing a lot of 14.1, and it has REALLY helped both my 8 ball and 9 ball game..

Edit: I think the 14.1 helped because of the pattern play, and also 14.1 gets you used to making a bunch of shots in a row without missing. I'm not nearly as nervous shooting the 8 ball on a B&R as I used to be.

My first 9-Ball break and run was on table 25 at Herbert's Billiards about 13 years ago. I was playing a race to 7 for 25 and time and I did it with the score tied 6-6. I will admit I made 2 on the break and lucked in two balls, but hey was still pretty satisfying. Now I keep waiting for my first 4 pack :), I have had 3 3 packs though so one day. Unfortunately though I only play once a week nowadays so game has dropped from a good B to high C

My first run-out

I remember the first time I broke and ran out playing left-handed. My buddy was super pissed as it was his birthday and I was giving him a handicap by playing left-handed.

However, I cannot recall the first time I ran out playing right-handed as it was so long ago and I break and run out so much more often as well.

I remember the first time I won a tournament however. I even had a break and run out in that tournament...that was about 11 or 12 years ago at Breakers Billiards in Collinsville, IL. They used to have a weekly 9-ball tournament on 9-ft Gold Crowns....I was handicapped as a 3....wow was that a long freaking time ago (I was shooting with a 2-piece Dufferin from Wal-Mart back then!). My game has advanced so much since then. Back then I would try to make everything and never played safe...

I think I was 13-14 when my friends introduced to pool during a birthday party. We decided to play 8-ball for ice cream (com'on now I was young) and I broke and ran out. I was a total banger, and I don't even remember how I was able to do that. It was probably a perfect layout. All I can remember now is the sweet taste of King Cone. Victory is sweet~

I just picked up pool again (I'm 25 now), joined the APA last week, and got another 8-ball break and run. When I went to my league last night, my captain handed me an APA 8-ball B&R patch. Kind of felt like boy scouts all over again.

9-ball. I didn't really play 9 ball because I was just a banger until recently. I've played 2 matches in my league and my highest run was a 7.

Don't worry too much about breaking and running. You gotta look at the bigger picture and that is...keeping control of the table. A B&R is one way to do that, but you can play safes and still control the table.

Keep up the good work!

The first time I managed to get a break & run in 9-ball, I didn't stop with 1 but I actually made 2 in a row!

I couldn't make a ball after that :) I remember I was so proud of myself, I went to the toilet, then bought myself a chocolate and pepsi, and in the door a guy I used to gamble with entered. (we only gambled for hot dog and pepsi). We decided to play a race in 9-ball, and I lost after playing very poorly :D

It took me about 3 months from I started to practise pool before I made my first break & run, and I was 17 years.
