Rotation player(9/10 Ball)-

1 Pocket player-

Bank Pool Player-

Straight Pool Player-

All 4 games-

My answers: Rotation-SVB
1 Pocket-Frost
Banks-Brumback
14.1- Earl Strickland

I know I'll get blasted for the 14.1 choice, but I have never seen anyone make 14.1 look as easy as Earl made it look against Archer in Bad Blood. I'll also take Earl in the "all around" based on his strong 1 pocket showing at Derby City.

I think harriman is a candidate on the all four. schmidt too, although he MAY come a little short on the banks. i think we give too little credit for playing well all around in pool.

Earl is a great player, but your logic that he is the best overall player is flawed because SVB beat him in the 1 pocket finals to win it.

Earl deserves a lot of credit this year though for beating Shane on the 10 footer and winning the bad blood match up with Archer

However, I think Shane has to be ranked as the best American player presently- he is the most consistent. Other guys that are right behind him are Archer, Earl, Morris, Deuel, Dechaine. Whoever is shooting best on a given day could win in a match up between any of these guys.

I respect the Varner choice....and I know he can still play- but I am talking currently.

SVB all around? Does he play bank pool or 14.1?

Also- If John Schmidt and Earl squared off at all 4 games....do you really think he would beat Earl? I don't.

If there were a way of giving equal credit in each event- Earl may not win...but he's certainly in the conversation.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm just guessing for fun, i dont have strong knowledge about Earl's current game.....

One hole, forget it -- John.

Banks.... I think this would be close, i'd give Earl a slight nod.

14.1... i'd give Schmidt a slight nod

I think if John was playing a lot, he'd get Earl, especially in a long set.

Having said all that, and this is something very important to me (and me alone it seems). Even if the rotation is 50-50, or slighlty favors Earl, seeing how far ahead of Earl John is in one hole, I give John a big overall nod.

According to the WPA rankings, Shane is ranked #15 in the world. Archer is a distant second (for Americans), at #75. I certainly concur on the "any given day" scenario...which is true for most of the world ranked players.
