Please tell me how we rate.

With the many events and tours in the Southeast I am curious on how the Viking Tour rates among the rest. Please give me your honest opinions only.

Mike,
My humble opinions are as follows:
Viking vs. UPA at Murphy`s : A statement was made that the UPA did not want any "locals" non pro`s to be in the event. Nuff said

Viking vs. SE Open: Seem to be getting little support, especially in Georgia

Viking Vs. Fury: Low pay-outs, high yearly membership

In my opinion the only thing thats need correcting about the Viking tour in the SE is to hold more events. The Southern classic was the bomb !!!!!

Compared to the UPA event at Murphy's...

Southern Classic Open
Cheaper Admission Fees
Cheaper Entry Fees
Much Better Hotel Rates
More Action
Three Tournaments (One-Pocket, 8-Ball, 9-Ball)
Larger Venue
Venue Open 24 Hours
Top Female Finisher Awarded
Overall Winner Awarded
Better Seating
More Matches Going On
Non-Pro Players
Larger Field
More Convenient Location (right off 85)
Better Menu (Don't laugh - that's important when you're there all hours!)
Diana Hoppe was there!
Mike Janis was the TD - A true gentleman!

Atlanta Open
More Pro Players

*I've heard this tournament being hailed as a mini Derby City Classic, possibly the next of its kind. I think if the Skins game had not been going on, there would have been more pros at the Southern Classic Open.

To compare the standard Viking events and the standard SE events I would say they are on par. The nice think about Tommy's events, IMO, is that they feature races to 9 for the Sunday matches where the Viking events tend to be race to 7 throughout. I prefer the longer matches. Other than that I think both tours are very good for the game, and for the players who attend them. The only thing we need to see is more of them.

As for the UPA event vs. the Southern Classic, the SC was much, much better. I think it showcases a trend that should continue in the sport where the events feature multiple tournaments in multiple disciplines and allow the players with all-around skills to fare better than the specialists. It also lets the fans of the different games see their favorite players playing their favorite games, which is terrific for everyone. I think most people agree with me that events like this and the Derby City Classic are what we all enjoy the most.

Also, though I rode you in the past about how you run tournaments, you really did a great job last week, and so did your 'staff' (Matt did a great job in particular). The only error I think you made was in the scheduling in the one-pocket final, where the match had that long delay while the calcutta was taking place for the eight-ball but that was no big deal. Other than that everything was perfect and I can't wait for next year.

bgb, regarding our races.... In the past our field size has usually been larger than most other tours and that was the reason we only had races to seven. However, to accomodate some of the larger venues we have changed our format earlier this year. Our current format is a race to 9 on the winners side and a race to 7 on the 1 loss side. Also, depending upon the field size we reserve the right to change the races to 9 and 9 or 7 and 7.

Matt said Thank You !

Hey Mike,
My votes are based on tour stops in the Atlanta area.

#1: Did not attend said UPA event. (enough said?).
#2: V.T.=85%, SE.O.T.=15% (The SE.O.T. does not draw
the players).
#3: V.T.=99%, F.T.=1% (In Atlanta area, the F.T. draws
even less less players than does the SE.O.T.).
#4: No response.

"Have a nice day",
Lamar

Thank you for your input and kind words.

Are there any venues you would like us to contact so we can get more events in the SE ?

Any recomendations for SC, NC, GA, TN, AL and FL would be appreciated.

Also, please tell other room owners that you would support our events if they held one then ask them to call me.

Thanks,

Mj

HI MIKE,

I'M GLAD YOU ASKED THIS QUESTION.

THE POOL ROOM SPORTS BAR & GRILLE HAS HAD THE PRIVILEGES TO HOST MANY POOL TOURNAMENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEARS. WE'VE HELD THE UPA, SE PECHAUER, LOCAL TOURNAMENTS, TAP, AND MANY MORE. THE VIKING TOURS SEEMS TO BE THE BEST RUN, PROMOTE, AND ORGANIZED TOUR THAT HAVE COME THROUGH THE POOL ROOM. WITH THAT BEING SAID, THE OTHER TOURS HAVE DONE A GREAT JOB ALSO. THEY HAVE DONE A GREAT JOB AT PROMOTING POOL, THE SPORT THAT WE ALL LOVE.

ALSO, WE LIKE TO THANK THE VIKING TOURS FOR DOING A GREAT JOB AT THE SOUTHERN CLASSIC. IT WAS A HUGE SUCCESS! THE BEST POOL TOURNAMENT THAT ATLANTA HAS EVER SEEN.

SAY HI TO MATT AND JOEY. THEY DID AWESOME.

Thanks John ! Matt and Joey say hi and can't wait to come back. Matt is looking forward to working with/4 you in the future, after he gets his diploma.

John, CONGRATULATIONS on your new room opening, it was worth the wait ! You did an excellent job. The new POOL ROOM in Duluth and the other in Marietta are absolutely 2 of the best rooms in the nation.

As always it was a pleasure working with you and your staff. I am looking forward to working with you on future events. Your staff are the most capable and friendly people I have ever worked with. Please send them my regards and let them know how much I appreciate everything they did.

Respectfully,

Mike Janis

Hey Mike....I have sent you a few emails in the past concerning stops in North east Tn. Johnson city , bristol Kingsport.....there is a very nice room in Mountain city , that has 8-10.... 9 ft olhausens, and another in Abigndon virginia that has 8 ...8ft brunswicks, and both of these rooms have local tourneys that usually run between 25 and 50 every month , and about another 50 - 100 players that come to the tourneys from a driving distance , at least 3-4 times a year.

We have about 20-30 locally that played in your Johnson city event , this past February, at Numans , and should you have the room for one of these stops, mountain city is right on the border of NC , so I am sure you could and would get alot of support from there as well.......

If you would like me to ask the room owners let me know......I would love to see more stops around here , or even knoxville ......But I REALLY think you would like Mountain city, or abigndon, Very nice

Brickmason29@charter.net- MY EMAIL or just PM me

I'm trying hard ! Please help me out by telling your local room owners that you want us there. Then ask your room owner to give us a call. I'll mak'em a sweet deal.

Currently the Viking Tour has more sponsorships available than any other regional tour in the nation which enables us to give the room owners the best possible deal on hosting a tour event.

Hi Marissa,

YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT IN EVERY ASPECT EXCEPT IN THE MORE PRO PART. IF YOU COUNT ALL 3 EVENTS, THE SOUTHERN CLASSIC OPEN HAD MORE PROS THAN THE UPA.

What pros were there?

And just to clarify....John, are you the owner of the pool room where the event was held?

Wade Crane, Ronnie Wiseman, Shawn Putnam, Tang Hoa, Grady Mathews, Danny Harriman, Mike Davis, Buddy Hall, Shannon Daulton, Larry Nevel, Corey Deuel, Helena Thornfeldt, Monica Webb, Young Hwa Jeong

Then there were several top players who should be pros but aren't on any list....
Cliff Joyner, Dave Grossman, Chris Bartram, Ike Runnels, Bruce Berrong, Stevie Moore, Litt John Macias, Jerry Slivka, Brian Butler, Hennessee, Scotty Townsend, Mark Gregory, Tony Watson

I probably forgot some so check out the brackets at:
