Your thoughts on 1x2 cases?

I'm starting to make 1x2 cases and I thought I would ask everyone what they thought about their usefulness. Since I usually get orders for 2x4s or 3x6s, I wondered if everyone also has a 1x2 for storage or to carry on days that you don't want to carry more than one cue.

I plan to make 3 more styles; no pocket, a larger pocket with a small chalk pocket on top, and a much longer pocket with multiple zipper pockets.

If you don't mind, give me some pluses and minuses.

Thanks,

I think they are nice.

And it seems, at least in my league, that not everyone wants to show up with a massive arsenal of cues. Lots of guys either break with the "team" break cue, or simply use their playing cue. In addition, many only own one pool cue anyways!

1X2 and even 1X1s are a bit less conspicuous.

I love them for easy carrying, and non-tournament travel (or non-stress tournament travel).

I sort of like 1X2's and have thought of getting a nice one for my main cue. But I have not. I think bigger cases are more practical and offer more options. But I might still get a 1X2 someday. However, I will say that if I get one, I would probably get a very sleek model. If I go 1X2 I want at most a suitcase handle, no pockets, no straps. Maybe no handle. That's just me, if I am going liight and minimal, I will get light and minimal.

I use a 1x2 tube case for my Schick. It is more of a sealed style of case, an old Super Mac Tube case I believe it is called. I use it for storage and if I do occasionally want to take it somewhere, then I know it's protected pretty darn well. A case like yours would be great if was looking to take it out more often, but I am a bit leary because of the temperature changes of Florida and how it would affect the cue if I was using it to store it 24/7. I generally find that people that use hard tube 1x2's are using them for storage of cues. They usually don't have pouches or straps, just a nice way to store a cue from the elements. I really can't comment on how much demand there would be for 1x2's for the average player...generally everyone had their own break cue in my former APA league, so everyone had at least a 2x2.

Shorty

Smallest Case I personally would own is a 2 x 4. Because I want a Case that will hold a Playing Cue with Two Shafts, Break Cue & Shaft, Jump Butt & Shaft, plus all my other JUNK. :D

Jim I like the Zipper closure on that Case as your Standard Latch SCARES me, as I see it as the WEAK point in the design of your fine cases. I have a vision of the Latch not working after a few months of opening and closing

I use one

I use a 1/2 whitten to carry into the office when I don't want anyone to know what I am carrying around. i have a 26 floor ride on an elevator and want to avoid any weird conversations about a giant leather pool case etc. They def. have a purpose if you are going to just go and practice or play straight pool.

Jim,
I think 1x2 cases are great, but I would like to see one made with a jump butt pocket. I play with one cue and also carry a jump cue, but have not been able to find a small well made case that will accomodate a jump butt.

The cases look real nice!

Cases

Jim-

Your cases look great. The black leather on the 1x2 looks primo to me.I am actually in the market for a 1x2, as I don't use a break cue very often and would like something compact for daily use.

Personal Opinions:

I like the idea of a pouch, but they look kind of strange on a thin case like a 1x2. It would be cool to have a compartment in the top of the case that you could store chalk and a tapper. That could make the case slightly longer, but would keep the clean lines of a 1x2.

Since I never carry any cue on my shoulder, a strap would be unnecessary for me. I would prefer a foldable handle near the top of the case just to easily carry it around the pool room during a league or tournament.

My all time favorite is the George case. I use the 1x2 case a lot. I think a lot of people still do. By the way, your cases are really sporty.

Hi Jim,

I have an assortment of 1x2 cases, Whittens, It's George, Ron Thomas, Fellini and such. I mainly use these for storage. I can easily access and sort my cue collection with 1x2's. I'm actually shopping around now for a 2x4 to carry around my cues. I'm using a Porper 2x4 in my locker at Corner's.

I use a 2X2, I have my meucci sneaky pete and my J&J jump/break. I need pockets for my chalk(big enough to fit a box of 12), glove(if it's really humid), cleaning cloth, moose head bridge head, micro sanding stuff, tip tapper and tip shapper.

Ricky,

If you're looking for a 2 x 4 George, check out the ones the guy has on Ebay (Item 7204695676). It's only running for a couple of more hours. I got the black croc print for considerably less than his "Buy it Now" price. It got here yesterday. Brand new with a key, still in the plastic bag. Nice deal...

Steve,

Thanks for the heads up. I'm actually watching a 2x4 Ron Thomas on eBay right now. I also have a lead on a brand new 2x4 Whitten. Thanks again and happy holidays.

Love 1x2s It all I used to carry unitl I got but by the "Gotta have pool gadgets bug" (break cue, tapper, cue holder, towel, chalk, yada yada) Lately Ive found myself wanting to go back to my 1x2.

Jim,

I have several 1 x 2 cases (can be seen in the "exotic" section at the Palmer Collector's website). One really interesting little thing I have on one of my 1 x 2's is on an old Viking case. It has a false bottom that is removable just like the top where you can store a small amount of stuff like tip tappers, chalk, etc. It's a long case, but it sure keeps the lines looking nice without extra pockets. I had the case for quite awhile before I even realized the compartment was there! Haven't ever seen another one like it with any of the major makers.

You do some really nice work! Keep it up...

Regards,

Steve Feld
