Your very first cue...

The local pool hall sold Malis. The particular year, the Mali catalog was the T-series (Trophy Series). All of my friends were buying Malis, so I didn't want to just follow the crowd. So, I went to NYC, found a billiard supply place (V. Loria & Sons) and fondled a dozen cues until I found the one that fit my budget and fit my hands. The cue??? A Mali from the Trophy Series.

I played with that cue for several years until I got a cue with points. I broke with it for a while until I foolishly sold it to a teammate. As far as I know, he no longer plays pool, but has no intention of selling the cue back to me.

Another 'sort of' ... My first cue was a common Dufferin 2 piece, no wrap aluminum joint cue. My wife bought it as a Christmas present a dozen years back ... unfortunately she picked out a cue with a snooker-sized 11mm tip. After I got cue #2, a Brunswick-by-McDermott, I cut the old Dufferin down into a jump cue (2" off the tip end, now it's about 13mm, and a foot off the butt end). That was a fun day in the shop, I had my little girl helping me 'cause I told her the shortened cue would be for her to use ... boy am I mean :o

PS to all the cuemakers, a cut-down steel ferrule from a 1/4" phone jack works just fine as a ferrule on a cue

PPS I'm now on cue #3, playing with a Flacon for the last 4 years ... cue #2 is used by company and I'm expecting it to see lots of action over Christmas

My first cue was an aluminum cue made in England. 40 years ago.
My first decent cue was a Meucci " Diamond". 25 years ago.
I still have both. Meucci has original tip & ferrule and is dead straight.

I've still got mine ...it's a player's edge...always wondered if it was any relation to the current player line of cues?

First stick was an Adams. Gave it to a guy I was teaching the game to, a few years ago.

Next was a Sneasky Pete. Have no idea who the maker was. Again, gave it to someone trying to learn the game.

Next was a McDermott. Ordered it from the manufacturer with my name engraved on the butt. Still have it.

Played with a Joss for quite a few years. Sold it to a friend.

Currently, play with a Shoen STL-14 with a Predator shaft.
Love it! Will probably never get rid of it.

1975- Palmer (1st cue used-25$) sold it to buy the Joss (stupid move #1)
1979- Joss (second hand custom w/4 shafts, beaucoup ivory and ebony for $125) Stopped playing for several years and sold it in 86 (stupid stupid move)
1987 - Mcdermott D-5 (still have it)
bought and still own many others over subsequent years ...play with wood joint Predator sneaky pete now (which works just fine)

I still own a vintage 1997 Sports Authority $19.99 cue including soft case that I bought in high school because one of my friends got a pool table in his basement, and we all thought we were cooler if we owned our own cue to carry back and forth to Greg's, rather than using his house cues. It's as warped as the day is long, the tip is only about 2mm thick, and if you unscrew it, there's a giant crack in the wood inside the joint collar (hits like a truck, I tells ya).

I'd probably sell it, but I think its value is negative (I'd have to pay someone to take it).
