For me, I Want to see.... this New generation of players in the mix of match productions.
I tire of old men talking about the game (I'm 76).
Would truly enjoy a fresh New 2025 perspective from an 18 yr old on match play.... They could start off on the mic with a seasoned/announcer.... that would be Fun !!!!!
I love to hear my kids talk about life.
Have a great Thanksgiving.

I'm pretty sure Savannah Easton and Sofia Mast and some others have been in the booth on WPBA streams. I think that Ultimate pool has had juniors in the booth during some of their streams also.

Not me.

With age comes wisdom... OK, sometimes age comes alone, lol.

My point being that baby players, even pros, lack the experience and insight most viewers are looking for and appreciate from the commentary booth. Do some guys go on too long about "back in the day?" Sure. But if delivered properly and appropriately those war stories are great and part of our collective history as pool players.

Some of the best commentary I've ever heard came from Freddy the Beard from the Kalamazoo US One Pocket Open.

Funny, funny stories from a million years ago but delivered at just the right time and with just the right delivery. But, the truth is not many guys can pull it off and subsume their egos long enough.

I recall Josh Roberts doing a pretty good job on a one pocket stream. He might not have the stories, but he gave good shot analysis.

Commentating is a skill, and it’s no easy feat. I’ve stepped behind the mic myself on a non-pool-related video, and it was challenging. Most speakers today have what we in my industry call "verbal tics": “you know,” “like,” “uh,” “well,” “so,” “um,” “in fact,” and so on. Once you’re aware of them, you hear them everywhere.

If I had to choose a young person in today’s pool world to try their hand at commentating, in no particular order, I’d love to hear Joshua Filler, Savannah Easton, Mike Molina, and Fedor Gorst. Each of them brings a different energy and perspective, and it would be interesting to see how they translate that into the booth.

As for my personal favorites, it’s hard to pick just one. I tend to lean toward a blast from the past: Allen Hopkins for his knowledge, history, and strategic insight; Karl Boyes for his Sid Waddell-like voice, pitch, and infectious enthusiasm; and then a few oldies but goldies who aren’t heard as much on today’s streams like Jerry Forsyth, Billy Incardona, and Alex Lely. And as an aside, I’d love to hear commentary someday from Niels Feijen, Darren Appleton, and Johan Ruijsink. These guys know pool inside and out as well as today's pro players.

Honorable mention goes to Andrew "Drew" C-l-e-a-r-y. To me, he’s still a young’n. His quick wit, sharp knowledge of the game and today’s players, and hilarious commentary would make him an absolute blast to watch. He’s talented in more ways than one.

I’m not sure any young person today has quite the seasoning needed to deliver truly professional-sounding commentary, but it would certainly be fun to find out.

It's not like the folks doing pool commentary, in general, are Curt Gowdy or Jim Nantz, etc. in terms of professional sports broadcasters and it's usually streaming on some platform or another and not high level productions. Happy to listen to knowledgeable pool folks and some do a really good job and have insights and some aren't as polished but that's what there is and it's fine by me. Some 18 year old? More likely than not just a bunch of awkwardness and very little or no perspective on real competitive pool and shotmaking, let alone being able to relate it or articulate it. If they can't talk about pool as a real expert they don't need to be in the booth unless they are there as a pro broadcast "partner".

I was watching an old match last night - one of the guys in the booth was a normal, established broadcaster and did fine - other guy was Mizerak and frankly he wasn't great but did okay - it's a skill and there's a limit to what pool tournaments are going to pay for/get for broadcasters.

I enjoyed the International overall, maybe a couple of matches where the commentating wasn't as good as I would have liked, but it's part of the package.

Who was the teenager that shot a Fargo over 900 at the international?
I'd enjoy hearing some of his points of view of other Jr Matches.
Having some Youth in the Booth.... will chum the waters of this new generation.

What occurred during the Camel yrs billiard productions.... was Tommy? (pretty sure I got his name correct)
Camel hired a non pool playing college educated network announcer.
He was entertaining, and evolved his skill with each show.... perfect.
Those shows having Tommy in the Booth, were thee best productions ever for the game because of skills.

Clive Everton was the best commentator ever.

Anyone who wants to do commentary should listen to hours of his work and .model their delivery after his.

If you are under 35 years old I don't really care what 95% of them have to say. Now if they are 22 and an 800+ Fargo I'd be interested in what they have to say ONLY about pool, otherwise get off my lawn!!!

im probably in the minority here, but i would love to do commentary. im not a great player but i feel i know enough to know when to talk and when to let the game speak for itself

True but you gotta come to grips with this: we're a bunch of old fk'rs and its past time we had some commentators up to speed on today's game/world. I think one older cat and one pup would be a good combo.

I don't think they mean full-time. Personally i love when you have active competitors making appearances in the booth. Gives a different perspective and a chance for fans to get to know them.
