Z2 ferrule chip out.

The ferrule on my Predator Z2 cracked and a .20" X .20" piece fell off and got lost, leaving the wood of the shaft exposed. If it was glued on, I wouldn't think that this could happen...crack yes chip out no.

How do I fix it? Will epoxy fill the fissure and repair the damage?

The ferrule needs to be replaced. There is no other way around it.

Not a patch job. Ferrule has to be replaced, if not your asking for trouble.

Question:
Why would a part of the side of the ferrule chip out if it was glued?
If it isn't glued but a slip fit, what does that part of the ferrule contribute to the structure
unless it is a pressed fit without glue?

The side wall of the Predator ferrule is pretty thin and the cap is not as long as full length ferrules have. It is a design that was made to play the way they wanted and not for strength. They sacrificed strength for performance.

They are a capped slip-fit design and are glued on. It's anyone's guess why yours broke, but the important thing is to have it replaced. If it's still covered under warranty, then send it to a authorized repair person and you may not have to pay for the replacement.

A slip fit makes sense for a retrofit part. I guess that the glue did not cover the shaft 360 degrees @ full depth and the chip out broke off where the glue wasn't.
