A concerning change in average tournament payouts.

Yrs ago a friend bought a local guy in one of the Tulsa Billiard Pace monthly opens for next to nothing. These events drew TOP grade talent b ecause of the 24hr action. Well, this local cat doesn't buy half himself and ends up in SECOND. My buddy went to jelly him and he thought he deserved half. WTF??? The guy made no attempt to buy himself but still wanted half. He stormed off like the delusional nit he was.

Unfortunately this is fairly common. Jeanette Lee tried to buy half of herself after the fact. The bidder quiet reasonably refused. I think she has a history of that but I will stick to the one time I recall the details fairly well.

A player thinking they should get half with no risk is being ridiculous. Indeed, even ten or fifteen percent can be ridiculous depending on the real costs the bidder spent to win. Many players see this jelly as a requirement, it isn't as players find more and more when outside bidders win. The bidder might have bet tens of thousands that weekend on that calcutta, other calcuttas, horses, dogs, poker, on and on. Plus any smart gambler is keeping a running tally of where they are at for the year or longer. If they are having a great year they might be inclined to toss a little jelly but I can't picture them tossing more than a few thousand regardless of what ten or fifteen percent is.

While on the subject, unless specified in the rules for the event, the buyer isn't under obligation to sell the player 50%. Many players get out of joint about this but have no problem not buying fifty percent if they don't like the odds or don't have the cash. Seems like players wanting to have everything their own way! If I were a bidder it would depend on the way I planned things when I was buying the calcutta.

WAXGATE and the Effects of Slick Cloth and Waxed Balls

... behaves similar to clean balls at the bars. ...
I think you hit the balls in the video at different heights to get that much difference in draw with those particular shots.

"Clean" is a relative term. For some fun, slip in a cleaned cue ball on the bar table. Sort of your own mini WaxGate. (y) :devilish:

But I thought you were planning to play in pro tournaments. Those conditions are usually different from bars.

Have you started to use side spin for position yet?

WAXGATE and the Effects of Slick Cloth and Waxed Balls

That certainly is not my experience. To me balls that come out of my Diamond polisher using Aramith cleaner feel pretty much identical to what a new out of the box set of balls feel like. As far as I know Aramith cleaner contains no silicon and no wax.
Not sure what makes the balls slide more effortlessly with these cleaners, but they do. If i cleaned my stuff with water/soap/vinegar/alcohol solution then my balls behaves similar to clean balls at the bars. That is why I dont use aramith cleaner anymore. They dont cling or skids the way balls at the bars do lol

I am not a pro, just a casual player. But this is my video of demonstration. The dotted CB is solution clean, the Solid white CB is Aramith cleaner. The Black OB is solution clean and white OB is Aramith cleaner

You can see that the solid CB draws more effortlessly, where as the DOT CB doesnt

Mark Tad?

He is talking Mark Tadd unless he has a different name. He was the best player I have ever seen. Practiced all the time. I watched him break the balls for 4 hours. Just break and re-rack. I asked him why and he said
all he needed was to be able to see the first one. He would also throw balls
on the table and run out for hours. Rarely if ever missing.

He played poker in Vegas and won a bunch and then lost a few times and
split. He became a born again christian. I think he still plays but rarely and probably never in a poll room that is open.

I have had two people tell me that they played poker online with a
guy that is said to me Mark. I think it might have just been
someone BSing.

I wish he would come back into the sport.

With my own eyes I watched him offer Archer the eight, Townsend the 8,
Tommy Kennedy the 8, and then finally David Grossman the 7.
Some people through David some money and they played. I think David won the first 5 or so and then messed up and Mark won that game and
then ran 7 racks. It was over.
I have heard great stories about him and was lucky enough to see him play a
few times. real nice guy. Kinda quiet.
[/QUOTE]
first time i saw him was in Charlotte at Mothers pool room

he got Searcy (and his backer) to give him the 8 for a hun per game

a few hours later he was giving Denny the 7, at that time Denny could still play, but not like he did in the 70's

Mark was with Johny Rider?, all his horses were fast, real fast

iirc this was around 92

Aramith Cleaner makes balls more slick. The balls virtually will slide before spinning away on cut shots. Unlike vinegar/soap/alcohol solutions
