Diamond Lights

I have an eight foot Kim Steel table in my basement. There is 54 inches from my ceiling to the table top. My basement has flourescent lighting already, but I know it could be better and that is why I am asking about the Diamond lights. The folks at Diamond say there should be 48 inches from the light to the table and they also said I should get the 9 foot light instead of the 7 foot light. Has anyone ever put a Diamond light in flush with the ceiling? Should I go with a 7 or 9 footer?

I'm not at home to look at mine, but I don't see why you couldn't just crew it into your studs from the underside of the light. You would have to make sure you went through the supports of the light frame because they are pretty heavy.

The Diamond box is designed to hang, but can be mounted flush. Not sure how as mine is hanging. The bottom of my light is 54" above the slate. Anywhere from 48-60" should be fine. Any reason why you can't hang it?

From my ceiling to the top of the table is 54". If the light is 7-8" thick, then hanging would get the light far too close to the table. At least I think it would.

To hang a Diamond light flush to the ceiling, get 4ea 1/4" toggle bolts, the kind with the butterfly nut/washer on the end, comes with a 1/4" screw. Throw away the screw, get you a 1/4" threaded rod, cut it into 5" lengths. This is going to be the hard part, and you'll need some of your friends for this one. Hold the light to the ceiling, then from inside the light, mark the 4 mounting holes through the light frame to the ceiling. Now, drill the holes out, mount the toggle bolts with threaded rods in each. Lift the light back up to the ceiling, being careful to guide each rod through the light cross members, then add a washer and nut to each rod, tighten the nuts and there you have it, mounted to the ceiling:wink:

Go with the 26x102 light. For sure.

I have my light hung where the bottom of the light is about 38 1/4" above the playing surface. It works great. I have had no issues with any shots and the light is excellent.

If the guys at Diamond recommended a 9ft light why would you wonder which one to use? You asked the experts and got your answer.

I don't think I really questioned their recommendation, it was more of the fact that it is a huge light and it looks like I will have to attach it to the ceiling. So I was looking for someone to say that they had done the same thing or did this for someone before. I know the lights are meant for hanging not attaching.

Maybe my initial question was off I guess.

I wouldn't have told you how to attach the light to the ceiling if I hadn't done it before;)

Thanks RKC, I just wanted to hear from a pro and, from what I understand, you are the best. Thanks again.

Another question in regard to installing this light. Since the table is already there, do you stand on the table to get the light into the ceiling? I have a cover, but was not sure if I needed to take down the table and then put the light in and put the table back up. Thanks.

With 54" from ceiling to slate (OP) - sounds like a 2 person job working off step ladders.

Glen is correct. We mounted my light exactly like this. Works great, but you do need more than one person thats for sure.

I would definitely go with the 9ft. light. Diamond has 2 different widths, you can get a 2ft or 4ft. When I bought my table I never heard of the 2ft otherwise I would have ordered one. The 4ft seems a bit much, at least in my room. It is a massive light. A friend of mine has the 2ft and it lights the table just fine.
Just a lil side note: the light could hang under 48" by just a bit and it will light your table good. So in your case if it hangs even a few inches below the ceiling it would much easier to mount and still give good light.
