Life is about control. I am wondering why we have seen two posts concerning this from ONE side. Think about this for a moment. If something happens and I cannot get my point across to control or effect an outcome then I continue until I can. In other words, if JL cared about the money, she would have posted. She did not. Why is posts at all being made. If I dont like an outcome of something then I would try to slander someone, if I was so inclined. So .....when a person cant control another person bad things will be done. People get beat, sued, slandered and even killed.

What is the point of posting, buyer was pissed..and wanted to show JL. I dont see JL being a spoiled brat and just for spite leaving a tournament. I do however, with the up your ass comment see another possible scenario.

Regardless, the fact remains that Mr T wanted something posted, that was with the expressed purpose to make JL look bad in the pool community. I mean, anyone can come on this forum, post something that you did or did not do and opinions would ensue and eventually you would either look good or bad.

The rush to judgement has ensued and none of us was there to witness including the TD (did not hear it all). Private matters should be that and in this case the buyer wants to "get" or "make" look bad in our eyes.

Personally, I dont know what happened and it is their business and I still think JL has done alot more for pool than most on this forum. My two cents worth.
Case closed.

So by this logic ...she can steal your first born and slap you while doing it but... its ok... shes done more for pool then any of us mental bangers?

Please spare me. The women put a move on this guy and he probably went off verbally on her. Doesn't matter what was said at the end .... this started because JL stuck one in him at the very beginning and she knows it. But who is going to question her? Obviously she has more clout then this dude. He knows it and she does to. People bend over backwards doing for her including the TD, which in any case the two are friends and makes the situation for this dude worse. He probably felt intimedated by the TD to even ask him this 6 hours into the tourny eh? Whats he GOING to say? And then after thinking about it he was like "hell no". I dont blame him either. I mean really ... she IS the goddess of the pool universe who just simply performs selfless acts of heroism for the entire pool world at a moments notice. Why question her authority.

I agree!, I would actually prefer to work offline in this situation.

Try to remember folks that JL has done ALOT of good things for this sport both from the perspective of introducing new people to the game and treating many existing fans with respect and grace. At the DCC a few years back JL was sitting there sweating a money match her hubby was playing and a handicapped kid asked her for her autograph. She told the kid to wait there, left the action room and came back a short while later with a cue. She autographed the cue and gave it to the kid.

All of us here have made mistakes and many of us here have made huge mistakes. This event imo is not deserving of people saying things about JL's character and reputation, considering the positive things she has done in her life for pool. Cut her some slack and let it go.

And that is why she has the following, and popularity she has. If she felt some guy who bought her in a calcutta was being an A$$ (whether he gave her half or not), then she can react the way she wants to. I have seen her be nothing but gracious, and completely professional towards other players and fans alike (including myself). This one incident will have no bearing on what type of person she is in my eyes. I guess part of that is because I would have handled the situation differently than the OP, but if I woulda been upset (I don't get upset easily) with the way things went in this instance; I certainly wouldn't have dealt with her in a way that would have made her leave....

Hope to see her come back around my neck of the woods....(never seen our poolhall so packed, and she treated everyone there GREAT!!)

My suggestion for the future would be to Jeanette:

She does treat her fans/public great. I have witnessed it to. This is also the reason that she makes a very nice income in sponsorships, endorsements, exhibitions, etc. I would stick to this aspect of pool and not worry about a $140 Calcutta. Her being in a pool atmosphere and promoting pool by her being there is worth more to her in the long run than winning a handicapped calcutta for one day.

BTW - Tompnation - if you ever meet Willie in person, you would change your feelings about him. He honestly is a great guy and has an open mind about everyone. I am not sure if you were threatening him by wanting to know his name, but there is no reason to go there. It is hard to sometimes decipher want someone was inferring in a post, so I might be wrong but Willie stating that 'you could beat me up' makes me think that he got the same feeling.

I agree with you 100% on the things that JL should focus on.

I also agree 100% that williebetmore is one of the nicest folks you'll ever meet. Had these two crossed paths under different circumstances, they might very well like each other.

My perception (it never ceases to amaze me how differently numerous people will understand/comprehend/decipher the exact same words) is this.

- Willie is good friends with JL and he posts here on a regular basis and most people know who he is outside of the forums. It made sense for him to be the one to "tell her side/defend her".

- Willie thinks of Tom as a possible forum troll due to not really being known & not knowing his real or full name.

- I think Tom took offense to Willies accusations of trolling because Willie is a complete stranger to him and he was using an alias as he called Tom out.

My take on it was that Tom felt it was like "the pot calling the kettle black" because here's a guy using an alias that he doesn't know calling him out for being unknown. Forget that you know willie, read his post, and then read Tom's post, all the while looking at them from Tom's perspective of not knowing Willie, and I think it'll seem less antagonistic/threatening. I have always watched JL play and felt like she was good for the game.

But....Now, I have changed my mind. Even if JL had intentions of buying half from the start. It's her responsibility to find the buyer and buy half very soon after the auction is over.

JL unscrewing in a middle of tourney to punish the person who person who bought her in the auction shows poor class. It only enforces why pool has not reached the level of other games. I believe in any other type of game, the player would be suspended from their association for quiting during the middle of a tourny for such a small reason. Would they not be?

It all falls back to that pool hall mentality. Who ever leaves with the money is the winner.....which is awful. I've heard these lines all the time in the pool room
"He would double steer me, So i will double steer him!"
"I told him that I got the 7 from player x but it really was the last 2"
"I told him player x beat me even..... but it really was only 1 time"
"Player x and I are really chopping up everything"

Anyway you rationalize it to yourself. It's not telling the truth and compromising the game you are playing.....and game of pool itself.

IMO, if you come to play in a pool tourney..... you come to play your best and try to win the pool tourney. The auction is just icing on the cake.

I,too, would have told JL "NO". But would have told her I would give her 10% for free.
I like your wording, and offering 10% for free would be a great gesture for the player. Nice way of saying, pay on time ya get 50%, paying after the dust settles only gets ya 10%. ;)
