Is This A New Pool Game/ Drills?

Pool? Never heard of it..

I got my usual email from pooldawg but was pleased.surprised to see something other than the usual pool cues or accessories. Instead they are selling a new training aide/ Game. Check it out;

This is AZB so I'm sure SOMEONE has an opinion about it.
 
Interesting but certainly costly. I think I'll stick to practicing shots from Bob Byrne's books. I believe I've still got my old "Target Pool" game around somewhere--probably lining the bird cage.
 
I didn't think it would be any good until I seen the endorsement by the APA. Since it has their endorsement I think that I will buy it. I am positive that they want everyone to improve so their skill level improves so they have to split up their team.

I wonder if there are any cards that teach how to sandbag. :rotflmao1:
 
If anyone has this, can you tell me if there are any harder shots? I looked at the 5 sample cards on the link Milw posted and I don't know anyone that I play with that can't make these shots 99 times out of 100.

$20 aint costly, thats a pitcher of beer and an hour or two table time. I got lots of books & some dvd's with drills but carrying around either is a pain in the ass...

I can think of all kinds of applications to make up games for these cards... they not only have drills on them they also have point amounts per difficulty and the have card denominations like A spades, 3 Diamonds, etc...

Drills are great but keeping the guys on my pool teams and guys I try to teach little things focused is a *****... hard enough to keep myself focused when doing drills...

if this tricks me & my friends into believing we are having fun playing a game and not focusing on the fact that we are doing drills. IM IN!!! Matter of fact, I just bought it about 1 minute ago.

You'll have to let us know how it works out for you after a month or so of playing it. Hopefully it's not something that gets played a few times and then is left on the side to collect dust.
 
Well it doubles as a pack of cards and fits nicely in my pool case so Im sure it will prove useful regardless.
 
If the samples shown have one of the hardest (30 points) cards, I would think this might be a fun game for "D" players. Anyone above "D" would do these shots and runouts easily. But for $20 it might be worth having around for when you have company and they don't play pool much. Johnnyt

PS: You can always make harder ones up on index cards for the better players.

The Monk is trying to start a league using very similar cards, its called Pool Teams Of America, I have a set of his cards, some shots are easy, and some very hard, I wonder who came out with it First?
 
This is the idea I put on here awhile back for a TV pool show. Players draw from 100 or so templates that have a point value. People at home get to see the template and how it should be played before the player shoots. Johnnyt

Well, point taken. But $20 is a lot for me for a pack of playing cards. As soon as I saw the samples I realized that I could make up my own game using harder shots in a few minutes. This strikes me as a product for the player who just has to have "everything." But who am I to throw water on another person's burning desires. Have fun.
 
The shots in the examples arent hard, and I dont think they are supposed to be. It is cueball control they are getting you to work on. Notice that some of them say cueball must be past a certain point.

These cards would probably help a lot of people that dont think they need them (not pointed at anyone in this thread).

The first one for example, is a simple combination, but you have to control the first ball in order to leave it in a position to make it and get on the next ball. Or play shape on the other ball first.

Great pool is not about making hard shots, its about doing the simple things right EVERY time!
 
The Monk also has a similar system which he uses a league to play this type of game.

It's definitely going to help your game but also going to be incredibly frustrating to some and incredibly easy to others.

Not my cup of tea personally, but it will improve your game if you practice some of these shots and become consistent at them.
 
Looks like a great idea. Reminds me of Target Pool, which I used to practice in the 90's, I lost the game but it really helped my position play.
 
I'm thinking you could easily edit the game by also requiring the person to run the balls out in a specific order, or by having to have the cue ball come to rest at a specific spot. I guess I'll wait to see what Dawg has to say about it after he gets it.
 
Im not sure how easy this thing will be and frankly I dont care. I'm confident it will be useful. I don't know how useful it will be for me personally but it will be very useful because I run APA teams and cycle through new players at 2-3-4 level all the time, and I try to inspire and teach the young kids that come into my home room.. For this, Im confident this is a fine purchase.
