Lindrum may well be the greatest cueist of all time, he gave huge spots to all the top players and usually still won. He firmly believed in lots of practice and didn't believe so much in natural talent and was quoted as saying "billiard players are made not born".
An interesting thing about Lindrum is that he played lefty even though he was a natural righty (like Mike Sigel).
His father made him go through a grueling practice regimen. When he first started at age 10 his father would only let him practice with one ball for 6 months, when he could make that ball stop anywhere on the table he added another ball. He then made him practice a single shot for 8 hours at a time, a practice that Lindrum adhered to his whole life, if he felt he executed a shot badly in a championship match he'd practice it at home for 8 hours!
When asked if he thought anyone would match what he'd accomplished he said in all modesty that he didn't think anyone would because he didn't think anyone will ever practice as diligently as he did.
