iowa state results?

All I can offer is Dustin Gunia (elite) won the masters 9B by beating Jesse Bowman (elite) in the finals. The masters 9B was a odd duck this year since they mixed the elites in with us. Dwaine Bowman took 3rd (his first tourney since moving down to masters from elite) and Chad Duster took 4th. I got a 5-6th check. Chad & I are masters.

Dwaine also took 5-6th in the masters 8B. Dropping down to the masters class seems to have rekindled Dwaine's competitive spirit.

whats your name sir ?

Last i knew Scott Hargens and Josh Johnson were in the finals of the winners.
4-5 guys in the losers.

how did duane get moved down already to masters? has it been 3 years already? when was it decided that elites could play in the 9 ball? and why wasnt this promoted?

when the elite tourney is gone away the isppa tourney will be a better tourney. empty victory if the best players cannot play. I could see the argument to only allow iowa players but to not allow because of ability is just wrong.

I think if you get your weeks in you should be allowed to play. In a few more years the masters division will be like level 1 in valley.

I heard tonight the Nate from waterloo won the masters 8 ball. I cant place him but he must be a good player.

Richardson: My name is mark nelson. Scott Hargens hangs out on here every once in a while. Cool to hear he did well, I really like the guy.

Mike: I don't remember a Nate from Waterloo. Hopefully "Skunkboy" (Ken Miller=president of ISPA) can fill us in with all of the results. I believe the ISPA has a website that could be used for this purpose.

I don't know the circumstances behind Dwaine's status change. He probably won't be a master much longer though, if he had finished one position higher in the 8B he would have been promoted right back to elite. He scored 16 points in his first masters tourney, 18 are necessary to move up IIRC.

Random thought: Letting the elites play with the masters keeps the masters from taking the top positions. This keeps masters from graduating to elite, which keeps the elite field small...which forces the elites to play with the masters...which keeps masters from graduating to elite, which keeps the elite field small...which forces the elites to play with the masters...

Jason, I saw Mike (from poker) yesterday at Smokies playing poker and he said he had Josh in the calcutta and Josh had won the winners bracket. He said he was there for 5 days before coming back and that Josh will have it unless he gets double dipped....he could be lying who knows.

At first I thought it might have been different weekends but according to this post

Jamie gave him the last 3 in waterloo. 2-$500 sets and he broke even. And you would recognize him if you saw him im sure mike.

Richardson: Check the kim steel "vid" in my sig to see if you recognize me.

I'm hoping the results will be posted here: http://ispa.in2pool.com/

Congrats to Dustin for double-dipping Jess. I can't think of anyone that's done that! I only watched a few minutes of their match & Jess short-racked him twice after Dustin fouled so I walked away thinking Jess would run over him. Wrong!

Jess rebounded nicely by picking up a $15k check at the La tourney. LOL

good shooting Scott, no surprise. Your game has no weaknesses and for a guy who works, your game is at the top level. Congrats.

There are a few guys in Iowa who shoot pro speed and then there are 10 guys who could be in the top 5 on any given day and you are one of them.

I know this has been beaten to death but Chad, Whitey, Jon K, and Don McCoy are the only pro speed players in Iowa. I cant count the QC players who live on the other side of the river as Iowa players. But after the big 4, it is up in the air as to the best player.

You can make an argument about it for about 10 guys based on past performance and you have been doing well the last couple years. Good luck

Most of the questions have been answered...thanks Mark and Scott for your input as well as Mike.

The official results will be post by the end of the week on the ISPA web site. all of the staff is basically trying to recover from this past week. It takes a lot of time and effort to pull off a 5 day tournament and it really makes it tough on those that work behind the scenes because they are all volunteers...remember that next time you see one and tell them thanks, they'll appreciate the kind words.

As far as Dwaine being moved back to the Masters...prior to this years event, anyone could request to be reclassified to a lower Division if they played and did not finish in the money for two years. With the new point system that we have adopted, the new minimum time is three years because the skill level is based more on consistancy.

Someone remarked something about the Elite Division. Well, that might be changing as well. We were very disappointed this year about the outside participation in our Elite Event. When we created the Elite Event, we thought throwing large amounts of cash would bring road players to our tournament like flies to sh....you know. But it didn't. So we will consider weather to continue an Elite event or allow our ISPA Elites to play in the Masters Events. If it's the latter, we'll need to change something to even out the field...shorter races or handicaps have been suggested...we'll see.

The deal about the Elites being allowed to participate in the Masters Division this year was voted on by the Board of Directors last June (2008) at the annual meeting. As far as being promoted...talk to you League operator, that's his/her job. I believe they all failed that portion of their jobs this year.

Please visit our ISPA web site for other information...

Let's hope this is the end of the elite tourney. Drawing out of state players for a big prize fund isnt working and neither is taking the added money and giving to those players that do show up. I hope that money can be put to better use in the other tourneys.

Having the best players that qualify play in the masters event is the only way to go. Maybe a better way to do it is to have a level 1 tourney like valley.

I havent heard the better master players complain about the pro speed players in the master events and myself feel that the exclusion of those players lessens the win. It is as if an asterisk is attached to it.

Let the elites play in the masters, make them qualify and NO handicapping
