What's The Biggest Fish That Ever Broke Your Line?

Way back in 1991 I was playing Steve Mizerak In The Eastern States Nine-Ball Championships In New Bedford MA. Steve went out to a big early lead and I managed to catch him at ten-ten in a race to eleven. I had won the last game and I broke and made a ball at hill, hill. My first shot was the one-ball. Jacked-up over the eight-ball I managed to shoot and pocket the one. My cue-ball went down table and grazed the six-ball changing it's course. It ended up in the side pocket. Of course with ball-in-hand, Steve was able to run-out and win the match. After the match, a local reporter asked me how I felt when the cue-ball found the side-pocket? I told him,"It's like hooking the biggest fish of your life and getting him next to your boat and he snaps your line."

This past week-end I had Mica by a score of eight-six in a race to nine, and lost. I feel the same way.

God bless you Steve. I have the tape of our match.

What's the biggest fish you should have landed?

Six years ago at a tournament in Tampa I was up 6-0 on Richie Richeson in a race to 7 9-ball. The soon as it dawned on me that I almost had him in the boat I missed an easy shot for a runout and he ran the set out from there...7-6 Richie. I really wasn't sure who he was at the time, but a crowd had gathered around the table and I could hear, "Johnnyt has Richie down 6-0. That was it for me...choke time, bigtime. Johnnyt

It was a one-pocket tournament in DC. I drew Brandon Shuff in the first round. It was kind of an unconventional format, he needed 18 balls to my 12 (the format was, play out the entire first rack even after one player passes 8, and play as much of the second rack as necessary for one player to reach his goal). I scratched on the opening break and he went on to beat me 18-4.

Oh, were these supposed to be stories about almost beating someone good? I don't have any of those.

The members here would love to see that match if there's any way you could upload it to the video section on AZ we have now. Cool story.

Sorry about the spelling, it was late. It was Mika Immonen.

I'll see what I can do about putting the match on AZ video. Right now it's on a VCR tape. I'll look in to putting it on a CD.

Geesh Tom, VCR?? What are you, like over 30? And if you say it's on Beta - 40?? lol ;) Would love to see the match.

My would be GIANT-KILLER moment was winning the first game of barbox 8ball against Jesse Bowman in a race to 6. If we were racing to 1 - I HAD HIM!! We weren't - lost 6-2. He's good - I'm not. :p

I don't really have a good story about myself, but I watched my cousin let Earl off the hook. Josh was only 17 at the time, his first trip to the open, and he draws Earl. Josh drills him in the first part of the match. He is ahead the whole time, Josh reaches the hill first. The score is 10-7, with Josh running out for the win, only the 6,7,8,9 are left. He has a straight in corner to corner shot, a few feet in betwenn the cue and object ball. The 7 is hanging in the corner, all he has to do is stop the rock, and he rattles the 6. Needless to say, he never shoots again! Earl runs out the set, and he throws away the biggest fish!

Archer played a bad safety and shi* the 7 in on me hill-hill @ the BCA Open a few years ago. :(

He had perfect shape for the 8...
