Different Brands of Chalk All The Same?

No, I don't think they're all the same - that was to grab your attention. But it's funny - they're all made in the USA and the prices vary wildly. Are they all made by Tweeten Fibre (maker of Master and Triangle chalk) and privately labeled for these other companies?

Master - 2.75 for 12 at Seyberts

Triangle - 3.25 for 12 at Seyberts

Silver Cup - 3.25 for 12 at Seyberts

Blue Diamond - 6.50 for 2 (!!!) at pc-billiards.com (apparently the only place you can buy Blue Diamond)

NIR Chalk - 9.00 for 3 (!!!) at pc-billiards.com (ditto)

Sang Lee Chalk - 12.99 for 3 (!!!!!) at highrock.storesecured.com

Now, I think Blue Diamond is better than Master, a little softer and sticks better, but how can that price difference be justified?

And why is Blue Diamond only sold at one place? Here's my theory - Tweeten makes it for Longoni (according to the Longoni formula, supposedly) but doesn't want them competing too much with their own brands, so their deal is that Longoni can only sell it through one place in the USA. Who knows - Tweeten might have even set a minimum price for them so that they only capture a market segment Tweeten doesn't compete in (the crazy will-spend-anything-for-pool-items market, which counts me as a member).

Thoughts?

I was told that Blue Diamond was formulate overseas and contains lead, just like the elusive pre 9/11 Masters.

I was told by Skip Nemecek of Tweeten Fiber that Triangle and Master Chalk are exactly the same formula just that Triangle was created as a brand for England.

$3 per piece of chalk seems quite high. They are probably trying to recoup the development costs and the manufacturing cost might also be if the production is still in relatively low quantities.

Still though, more than a 1000% increase? That must be some super chalk. It might be time to start investigating making chalk.

Nah....... Master and Triangle have 98% of the market locked up between them and the fake versions of their chalk on the market. Even I could make a better chalk for a lot less than the Longoni chalk I couldn't afford to market it against the 800lb Gorilla that is Tweeten. It would need to be better and cheaper and would still take years to gain significant market share.

Still.........might be worth thinking about.

you make a good piece of chalk (better than masters) and i'll only buy my chalk from you

I prefer master. I find it silly that Silver Cup is more than master because I personally think silver cup is terrible. As for Blue Diamond, Souqet is pretty serious about using it, so there must be something to it.

I used a few different color of master chalk myself, tan, black, blue and green. By far, I like the green the best. The texture seems softer and layers on better. As for the black blue and tan, their texture all feel the same. As for sang lee and bd, I haven't tried them, as they are expensive and I don't think my skills and experience is enough for me to jedge and decide whether or not they are actually better than the others.

here in fl there is alot of humidity so sometimes if a chalk sets out for a while it becomes wet like i think. maybe im insane. does anyone have any experience with these chalks and if one is better in a humid enviroment.

im not an expert on lead but how would this make it a better or worse chalk?

Hawaii when I lived there we all liked the green better then the blue masters. I also learned to keep it in you r pocket when not shooting this way it stays warm and dryun like chalk left on the table all day. Might have been a secret but it works.

Master GREEN is my choice!

i thought i was the only person who used that chalk! LOL!
I use it cause it keeps my shafts from blueing.....people i know think i use it cause it gets everywhere and is annoying......lol...... "double plus good i guess"

Tweeten makes triangle chalk NOW but kierkenchalf (?) used to make it, or is kierkenchalf german for tweeten?? I personally like the National Tournament brand, seems softer and better coverage. I seem to remeber seeing old triangle chalk under kierkenchalf logo going for high dollars on e-bay???

My dog seems to like silver cup better than master chalk. ;) he tends to shit blue for a few days. I have master spruce w/ american flag and it seems moist?????
