The original pockets on my Valley table are very hard and hard shots that are center pocket come right back at you. As they are shaped like a half-moon, when you shoot hard and hit a little off center in the pocket the ball comes flying out like a boomerang. Is there something I can put on them to soften them up? I tried the after market rubber ones and didn’t think much of them. They left marks on the balls and really didn’t fit that good. Thank you. Johnnyt

I don't think the pockets can be tilted in at the bottom anymore than they are, but I will take another look. It's the two corner pockets at the back of the rack. They get hit directly with the hot Florida sun for about three hours a day. I put the cover back on if I'm not playing that time of day now, but the damage is already done I think. Johnnyt

It does sound that way -- that the sun's ultraviolet rays (and heat) have done their damage on these pockets.

Sounds like "you coulda had a V-8"... er... I mean... a JPJ Indoor/Outdoor Pool Table. :D

Most VALLEY aftermarket pocket liners need to be trimmed with a razor blade to fit properly. Usually the bottom of the pocket liner is too long, so trimming it to fit on top of the "gully Boot" without having to bend the liner inwards at the bottom is important. Also, the liner must sit flat against the chrome behind and the wood on the sides. Sounds like you may need to remove the corrupt liners, trim, and replace. Hope this helps

My Valley hasn't spit a ball out since 1987!

I played on one of them out at the pool in a apt complex in Tampa when I first came down here in 1980. I made a lot of money on that table playing the a half-dozen Tampa Bay Bandits and four Buc players that lived there. I wound up giving Jerry Carter of the Bucs lessons. God I miss those days...and the money. Johnnyt

Maybe they sent me the wrong ones or I'm not a good trimmer. Johnnyt
 
same problen with my side pocket

i replaced the plastic pockets on my 4 by 8 brunswick, highlander with custom made leather pockets. one side pocket spits the ball out if hit dead center firm. in an attempt to figure out what the problem was, i got down and looked under the table i noticed that the back this pocket was touching the wood on the side, i had a papertower in my hand and for a quick fix i just folded it up and shoved it between the wood and the pocket. no more balls jumping out. i'll reposition the pocket next time i recover the table. the other pockets have about an 1/8 inch between them and the wood.
