What do you do with shafts you don't play with anymore?

My everyday player is a locally made sneaky with a 3/8x10 joint. It's beat up, tired, and dented all to hell...not exactly how I like 'em, but that's how it goes.

Anyway, along this path, I've acquired a few shafts in my quest for knowledge. But once I found my OB-1 (modified), it was love at first draw.

But now what? they all play so damn different, I just don't see the use of having them around, especially when I could just buy a new OB off the rack and expect similar results.

Any ideas? after watching the Oscar interview, I kinda want to have it turned down to 9mm, maybe plink around as a Golf shaft....I dunno....it's like 30 years old curly maple....maybe I should just keep it.....

ARRrrGHh!! :oink: :oink: :oink: SWINE FLU :oink: :oink: :oink:

I got nothin...any ideas? Maybe I should sell?

Eat them I am a Termite, I mean there is nothing better than seasoned wood, especially wood that has been soaked in wood stabilizer, kinda makes you drool don't it!!!!!:)

When I was single & wealthy, I would buy a new 314 every 6-12 months. Let's say I was a little rough on my equipment and preferred the feel of a new (smooth) shaft. I think I had 13 or 14 of them before I bought my OB-1.

The discarded shaft would get cut in half so I could see what was inside (OK, I'll admit that I snapped off a few ferrules in anger...I'm over that now). They varied quite a bit from 1996 to about 2001, but generally it was just a hole with either a shiny material lining the hole (maybe nothing more than excess glue) or a very porous (pink?) foam filling the hole.

Here's the problem:
I'm 98% enamored with LD shafts. The last 2% I'm giving purely to the look of old-ass seasoned wood; vintage cues with worn in cortland is just epic. There is something magical, mystical about a cue that's had a life long before you got to shoot with it. Anyway, Predators, OB's, and the like are so much more point and shoot, I can't deny playing with them.

Say I were to adjust to my beautiful, dark curly maple, the second something bad happens to it, or if it moves at all, I'm gonna be pissed with all the time I've invested learning how to use it. The shaft I had made with the cue is of the lesser deflecting kind, but it doesn't match up when I'm juicing up the cueball with my OB.

The sound on both my one-piece shafts, though, is just awesome. They really do sing.

wow mosconiac!

and pink foam? i though OBCues were the only ones that filled it with foam. did you happen to take any pictures? and were any holes off center? varied significantly over 5 years? Interesting.

I still have a pile of pieces at my parents, but not all of them. I'll take pics the next time I'm down there. I can confidently report that NONE of them had any construction issues. I tried to ignore that thread you are alluding to because I knew it was all BS. BTW, only 1 or 2 had the foam, so it might have been a short-lived experiment.
