I just wanted to help make people aware of the above tour, and encourage them to get involved.
I am based in the UK, and made the long journey to Maryland for the East Coast leg of the tour in March. My entourage (my girlfriend and her friend) stayed in Manhattan shopping, and I braved the wilds of La Guardia airport for the internal hop to the venue.
I arrived rather early, given that there was one flight in, and one flight out, and the owner of the tour stop kindly allowed me to come in early and break some balls, eager to warm a cold arm!
Mark Cantrill, Johnnie Archer and Nick Varner arrived shortly after, followed closely by an assortment of boys and gals of various skill levels all excited to get the opportunity to play the pro-players and show off a bit.
The format had us divided into two teams, with Johnnie taking a group and working on stroke and aim, and Nick demonstrating technical skills and helping us to understand why balls react the way they do, and a few excellent tricks with bank shot work and combination and sets. Lunch-time arrived and then the teams swapped pros.
Coming from the UK I was anxious being on my own, and must admit, felt a bit out of my depth before the event started, but I found the day amazing. Within minutes of their arrival, the pros made me feel totally welcome and the whole school of players had a great time, laughing and joking our way through the day. Hats off to Mark for a great event and format, and to Johnnie and Nick who were such good sports and put up with a lot of the same dull questions from us amateurs!!
I got home from the event and have found my game improved a great deal with just a day in the company of these guys, being in the prescence of them and watching the way they approach shots is the easiest way to add 50% to your ability, and then the actual training they give is priceless. I travelled 6000 miles to the pool school, and i would recommend it to anyone. in the UK, if you want Steve Davis to shoot snooker with you, you would pay £10000 per day, so $200 is small change as far as im concerned to meet bona-fide legends of pool and share the cloth with them
Kindest regards
