I have all the respect for JA.But I just watched Allison Fisher play George Breedlove on the streaming from the Pred 10 event and holy crap is George a slow player.
And got a good exercise watching him.;)
Good match though.......Allison won 10-9.......Keep it going Ally.

Jimmy, Johnny didn't used to be that way. He fired them in and would scare you to death. No hesitation, just offense. I guess he has a rep to protect, so he "thinks" about every little thing, now. I knew him when he was about 19. Man, scary.

Jimmy,

Think George is a slow player, watch Charlie Bryant some time! Ferocious player, but when he came down and played at the pro event at Kolby's, I think everyone of his sets ran at least an hour longer than any of the other players. He beat Efren, though, so I guess that's tough to argue about his routine...

Kid Delicious makes glaciers seem supersonic. I've seen him take five minutes between shots.

Yeah, I'd rather watch a cat scratch and moan in heat. He's just brutal to watch. From the pre-shot routine to follow through, just might as well make me walk on embers.

A lot of his matches went Hill/Hill too. That doesn't help any.

Two Charlies, one worse than the other

Steve:

Charlie Bryant's indeed a slow player. I watched him from a few feet away in the stands, at both Turning Stone and Super Billiards Expo, and good-gosh, talk about methodical and deliberate. I use the word "deliberate" as "de-lib-er-ate" as in deliberating every single nuance of every single shot, going back and forth around the table, bending down to peer shot angles, etc. But once Charlie was down on a shot, he rifled it in.

However, Charlie Bryant wasn't really annoying to watch. It was more anticipation of "when" he was going to go down on a shot, for you knew when he did, he was going to fire that puppy home.

The other "Charlie" -- Charlie Williams -- is genuinely annoying to watch. I probably don't have to explain his pre-shot routine to most of the readers here, but it goes something like a Don Henley song ("Dirty Laundry")...

"Peer-up, peer-down, stand-up, crouch-down, get-down on the shot, get-up from the shot, take a walk around [the table]... peer-up, peer-down, stand-up, crouch-down, get-down on the shot, get-up from the shot, take a walk around [the table]..." (By this time, you're pulling your hair out watching him, wanting to throw something at him, to snap him out of it. Or, you want to do the loud "hiss" that Cesar Milan does in the Dog Whisperer to snap dogs out of a bad behavior.)

Big Arm John or Strong Arm John (I've seen him called both) can take what seems like a gazillion years to pull the trigger (after he's down on a shot  ). He can play SAAAAAAAAAAHHLLLLOOOOOOOOOOWW! But, 'I' certainly wouldn't say a word to him about it!!

You are so right. When Johnny was young and establishing his reputation he wasn't slow at all. He just made balls and ran out without picking lint and looking at every detail. I wish he played like he used to because he was so much fun to watch........

George wasn't always slow. I remember when he knocked off some big event in the mid 90's, he was playing fairly quickly, and man when he's in stroke he's absolutely deadly.

Slow play sucks....whether on the pool table or on the golf course, it takes away from the enjoyment of the game for others.....just like in the corporate world, if you are among the bottom 20%, or in this case, the slower 20%, you need to be managed out....

With that being said, I have seen JA and Breedlove in TV matches before, neither seemed to be slow or have constant shot clock issues....

i think its a shark move on hillbillys part. He is slow but he stretches it out even further as a tactic. obviousely it worked on efren in that match.

Fabio Petroni...now there is a slooow player. I just can't watch him play. i'd much rather watch a couple of B players play then watch his game.

Hillbilly and Kid Delicious vs Archer and Souquet in a race to 100 scotch doubles.

How long do you think that would take?

I heard someone say once that JA is so slow it takes him two hours to watch 60 Minutes.

The thing is, Johnny can still play fast and play great. A year ago at the Swanee tournament at Hollywood Billiards I watched his first four matches or so and he was the fastest player there, bar none, and was playing perfect pool. I wish he had more of that rhythm he had when he was younger but these days I think that the tougher the competition gets the more he slows down

His name is Slow Arm John to you! I've actually seen him play a lot, and the best I've ever seen him play he looked like he was on speed. No Joke!

Well - I was in Indy about a month ago, and watched John playing (gambling) and he was significantly faster. He also looked alot better playing. I think he picked up the pace, mind you he is still slow compared to most players, and is playing better.

I watched Breedlove play one handed at the same time and he seemed play normal player speed there and he was playing one handed.

Do you agree?
