Why Not Run Their Own Tournaments?

Here’s an idea. Being that three or four pros (maybe more) run their own tour and play in most if not all the stops, (and take between 35% and 55% of the yearly purses) how about two pros or more from each state running a tournament in a local room each month. I’m sure they could put in $500 and the room and a sponsor or two put up another $1000 to $2000 added money. Have them as open tournaments with something like a $65 to $100 entry fee.

I think this would let the pros help themselves to have more tournaments to cash in w/o traveling all over tin- buck-two to enter them. If a pro put up $500 + his/her entry fee no one would should have anything negative to say if he/she won a stop or two. Johnnyt

I was talking about open tours. But I guess you are right, the WPBA members would need permision to play in them. Johnnyt

I'm no pro but I love pool & would commit at least $500 to a tourney or two if it's legitimate. The issue is pool players. They don't give a rats ass about anybody but themselves & only want to help the game in order to make themselves a bigger score. No player does this kind of stuff because they love the game & want to contribute. Sorry to sound so negative, but it's the facts of pool life.

Actually the WPBA has sanctioned a tour in south Texas being run by Kim White. The tour leaders at the moment are men but women also can compete in it.

The first stop on the WPBA satellite tour is in a pool hall owned by Janet Atwell. It's a $10,000 added event.

More WPBA player run/sponsored events are coming would be my guess.
