Texas Has The Most Tournaments?

Most tournaments are on 8 foot tables in Texas, though. A few on barbox and 9 foots.
Tournaments
Texas does have many, many 9-Ball tour. and there is a good amount of 8-Ball tournaments too but it does not have any Straight Pool tournaments. For which I am very disappointed. There is only one 14-1 league going on in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area in Hurst, Tx.
I do not hear of any One-Pocket tournaments either.
New York is the place for Staight Pool tournament & Straight Pool leagues. Many years ago there was the "Dallas Invitational Straight Pool" tournament that took place once a year for many years. Players like LeRoy Kinman, Dick Lane, Bob Vanover, Jack Potter, Bob Mapes and many great players from Texas would play in it.
I wish that some of the guys down here that run these great tournaments would start some 14-1 & one pocket tournaments. I bet their would be a big interest in them.

We have tried quite a few 1-pocket tournaments in Texas and we just can't seem to get a good turnout for them. It's odd because there is a lot of 1pcket played itn Texas.
Even though I live in Carolina I still have to say that Texas probably has more tournaments.
The local tournament where I live has been pulling in near 100 ppl per week and it ends around 6-9am the next day!!! I haven't been bothered with that tourney for a couple months for that very reason. My practice time is short week to week and I value it much more than tournament experience. If I decide to build the addition onto my house for my pool table (still in storage at my brother's garage) I'll hit that tourney every week. If I do build that addition I may also start streaming that tourney for everyone.
I can also say Ohio has a lot of tourneys....or atleast they used to. I haven't lived there for 14 years so it very well may not be the same. I remember being able to hit tourneys through the weekdays and into the weekend every week locally.

and with the galveston world classic starting up we'll have one more.
I live here in Texas and its only recently that we've had alot of tournaments...I think the most tournament action is down in Florida

Waco "B" player monthly 3 yrs+
Lone Star Tour, just started this year
Legends quarterly 2 yrs+
Houston Open 8 yrs+
Texas Open 34 yrs
OB Cues Ladies Tour 15yrs+
Maybe we just need to promote more!! LOL

This is the ironic part to me. In NY - where space is at a premium - everything is 9-footer or nothing. In the land of Texas and million acre ranches, 8-footers reign supreme. Weird.
Texas may or may not have more tournaments, but one thing is for sure: Texas tournament directors use the internet (and AZ in particular) more to get the word out.
Maybe we just have more computers in Texas

They all have mostly 8 fts. They then have either none or 2-4 9fts.
I only know of 2 in the entire state that have all 9fts.

I guess once a trend gets started, that's it for a while. Strange forces control us humans it seems.
I would love to run one or both of these kind of events. We just now need some added-money from a company and it's on! Anyone know of anyone, please let me know.

Great job at Rusty's. It would really help if you looked into it. You might even get a good turn out on a week end just with the League players and
charging 15 dollars entry fee. I think players would play just for the tournament. Many players have come up to me and asked if Doc was going to get a 14-1 league going like in Hurst. So, I know that there is interest in it.

No apology necessary, I assumed I was already included cuz I was a tourney director.
I think charging only an entry fee would work to get a few people, but it would get more people AND more of a following if there was money added somehow.

Because we have bars with pool tables NOT Pool Halls!!!! Years ago Clicks and Speeds started this trend....randyg
I never thought of it but you are correct. The major chains are the ones who started it and continue the tradition. Slick willies and fast eddies are also mostly 8 footers. With a few 9's thrown in here and there.
Liquor in the front. Poker & pool in the rear. :sorry:
