I had a great scales but when the DEA busted me before I went into the joint they took them away(just kidding).

Sreiously I finally have my cues organized etc and want to be able to weigh shafts, butts etc. I'm not in the mood to deal with cheap Chinese scales, I want to get a real good one. Any suggestions is sincerly appericated,

i have a cheap chinese made scale and it's held up like a champ. normally i like to buy american but a digital scale at the price i got mine for was too good to pass up

In the shop I have a Pelouze postal scale that I paid about 35.00 for and is good to 2 grams. I've also got two, small, Chinese digital scales that I carry in my cases, that go all the way down to .005 of an ounce. That's 1/36 of a gram. They're accurate enough that I can weigh and see the difference in weight between tips with it. They cost me 11.00 each, including shipping.

I've got a Pelouze, too, that I got at Office Max. I think I paid more like $60 for mine, but I've been real happy with it. They keep 'em locked up because of druggies trying to steal 'em (true stuff).

American Weigh AMW-1000 Digital Bench scale......I found it on amazon for $26.00+sh It is the exact same scale Atlas billiard supplies sells for $57+sh....1000gx0.01oz 6"x6" platform. Mine comes in monday

I'll put a 'ditto' on that post. I bought a 500 gram test weight to test that little $11 sucker and it was perfect, well... less than 1/2 gram off.

Here's the link: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1165 and check this out! ..........

Why buy the best when a couple of these lil puppies will do the same job? Hell... get 1 for each cue case and have it with you all the time.

Hey Eric

I put Dickie Neighbors (rhncue) onto those little digital scales and have bought several myself. People at the pool hall see me use one and then buy it off of me so that I have to buy another one. Use the link JimS provided and you won't be sorry. These little scales are accurate, reliable, and so small you can carry them in most cue cases.

I have a triple beam myself and prefer weighing in grams for more accuracy. It is very important that you use the correct conversion when converting grams to ounces. You have to use 28.35. Because you are dealing so many grams you will be off by a 1/4 of an ounce on a 20 ounce cue if you try to use 28.

I just bought one and it will not give the same weight twice on the same cue. The top surface is rounded over. I can't understand making the top surface of a scale rounded. If the pressure is on the side it might only measure 2 ounces for the cue and with it near the center it might say 19 ounces or is might say 17 ounces. I love the size, but not the accuracy.
There might be a sweet spot on the surface somewhere that gives the perfect weight, but I have failed to find it yet. If they made them just like the larger ones are made it would be great.

Chris, I took a 5" piece of 1X1 maple and routed a V in it's top. I put the scale on a flat surface, lay this 1X1 on top, turn on the scale which sets the tare and then put the cue onto the V so that it doesn't roll around. I get very good repeatability doing it this way. I often take the cue off the scale and then a couple of minutes later put it back on and it reads the same, right down to .005 of an ounce. I also weigh my West system epoxy using this scale when mixing very small amounts such as .100 of an ounce of resin and .020 of hardener.

Do you put that in place of the rounded over top or did you put it on the rounded over top?

I assume that after you took the scale out of the sleeve you took the black plasitc cover off. I took a few... 3 or 5 Master spots, cut them in half, glued them together and then glued them to the tray leaving about 1/2" between them for the cue to lay. Works perfectly.

I tried some of the above suggestions and now have it weighing the same each time. But I have another larger more expensive digital scale that says the same butt weighs 15.8 and this new one says it weighs 15.1. Now I don't know which is correct. I guess I need some precision weights to check them with.

Scale

I use a Pelouze that I have had for 6 yrs still works great they cost a little more but its the last one you ever have to buy!

I have one in my office. It works great.... but I can't get it in my shirt pocket.  :groucho:

Weight measurement

Chris: Try the grams scale. If your cue weighs the same on each scale then make sure one scale is not reading TROY ounces. I made the same mistake.
The scale I use in the shop came from Atlas and it has 4 scales (modes)
including 2 ounce scales. Watch out for the bugger that has a tiny "t" after
it, that is the evil TROY ounces.
