Vintage cues

In the guitar market there is a huge desire for "vintage" looking guitar.

For example, there is a guy named Tom Murphy who hand "ages" historic re-issue Les Paul guitars.

Now, if you buy a 59 Les Paul Re-Issue guitar with no aging you'll pay maybe around 5K new. If you buy one that has been "Murphy-aged" you can pay almost 10K sometimes.

He does everything from using razor blades to "check" the finish (to give the NITRO finish the same look as if it were 50 years old) and he dings up the back as if it has been bumping against a belt buckle for 50 years, etc, etc.

So...here is my idea. If you want your new Black Boar to look aged send them to me. I will ding them up a bit. I have some tricks for rusting those steel joints. If they are ivory I can stain them to look much older. I can check the finish.....beat up the wrap a little bit. The shafts I can stain to look dirty and nice and used....I can age your Black Boar by 50 years. I only charge $5000 for the service.

Does that make sense? LOL....and yes...people pay big bucks for Tom Murphy to beat up there Les Paul. It is also done on other guitars as well but that is the major example I can give.

I'm dead serious.

Google TOM MURPHY LES PAUL...or MURPHY AGED LES PAUL and see what you find.

So I'm going to do the same thing with cues. Send me that new BUSHKA style cue and I'll age her for a few thousand....we'll call them "MATT_24 AGED CUES".
 
Why would you want a dinged cue? Especially the shaft?

If I wanted my cue to get an aged look, I would rent it out for a $10/day at the pool hall. There's no way in hell I would even think of paying anyone to beat up my cue let alone beat it up in the first place! Your idea sounds interesting for guitars, and maybe even rustic furniture, but pool cues?

Maybe if you wanted to make an old Brunswick replica, that would be the only need for that IMO.
 
I have seen this stuff in Planet Hollywood / HArd Rock type shops in Disney. Something like $1500 for a new Strat, $15,000 is it's been aged to LOOK like SRV's #1.

Dude, It is a joke!

Not the guitar part...it is popular to have a beat up guitar...but about AGING a cue.

We'll send out no cue before its time! (who can tell me what I'm making fun of with this quote)

You can buy a $300 Mexican Strat and make it look like number one with some elbow grease....and a few stickers.

To sound like #1...well...that is impossible.
 
When I was making guitars I did this as well.

I didn't charge as much, but I was able to make a new guitar look like a well-worn 'vintage' one. Based of course on actual old vintage guitars I viewed and photographed.

Actually, those photos and notes led me to making my '1958' model, which was very popular. Basically, a 1958 stratocaster, without the stratospheric price tag.

Most people who bought one, bought a second one...

But most of them looked new when they left my shop. I used only traditional nitrocellulose lacquer for sunbursts and non-clear coat solid colors (which were only Fiesta Red and Black, as it was in 1958). So they aged naturally and gracefully, like the real ones did.

But anyway, I did this service for people and they were happy with the results. i only charged $100.00 I think, but usually also sold a complete set-up as well as replace bad parts, so I usually made a bit more on the deal.
