I'll be there!

I'll NOT be playing.

I just want to see Sailor, meet Dennis for the first time and maybe meet some other AZ'rs. I'll be carrying around a brown AVP soft case with an AZ key chain fob on it. I'm 66, glasses, over-weight, blond/white hair. Come up and say hi. I'll probably be hanging around Sailor somewhere.

Saw some of the first two rounds of matches. Appeared to be 19 players entered in the tournament. Larry Nevel was hitting them fast and won his first two rounds and Bobby Hunter was playing his second on winner's side too when I left. Didn't see any other big names, other than Jeff Carter who was spectating.

Wow, thanks for the update. More than likely, Bobby and Larry will meet each other for the final. Do you know if they are qualifying more than 1?

I was Larry Nevel's second match. He ran 86 and out (game was to 100). The game seemed like it took about 20 minutes.

On the winners side, besides Hunter and Nevel, there is Mike Corbett and a young fellow named Shawn who came down with Nevel.

On the losers side is Ed Latimer playing a fellow from Minnesota with the first name of Demetrius again (Ed lost the first time 100-80s something I think). Rich Klein was playing Denny Keehan when I left and the winner there would play Rick Michalec.

As Rich said, Nevel was playing good. Besides the 86, he ran a 50 and a 30 in his first match.
Dave Hennessy ran a 50 when he beat Sam DeChristopher. Jeff Cox ran a 40 something when he lost to Ed Grau.

Hunter and Nevel on the winners side.

Sean ?, a young shooter that Larry Nevel brought down from Wisconsin with him is playing "Fighting Denny Keehan" on the losers side after Denny took out slick Rick Michalec. Michael Corbett, the 1993 8-BALL SINGLES CHAMPION
playing Ed Latimer, who has run in the 100s several times in his career and is always a threat to throw a 50 at you.

By the way, I think Corbett has got to be in his 50s,as is Hunter. Denny K and Ed L are in their 60s.

Where in the heck are all the young guns?

We got two guys from Wisconsin, 2 guys from Minnesota, and all but one of the other players are south of Madison Street in Chicago.

No one from the North Side plays 14.1???

What a tough sell.

Hah, the young guns were the guys cleaning the hall until 8 in the morning. I hope the players appreciated the clean carpet. :grin-square:

Sleep was necessary at that point. Or I could try staying up until the tournament started. Now that would've been some real fun!

Did the tournament wrap up yet, does anyone know?

Final

Surprise, Surprise.

Nevel First
Hunter Second

Video to follow tomorrow

150-79

Both missed a few

Too busy playing 9-ball and 8-ball. They love the big breaks and loud noise - it's a testosterone thing. Also, the biggest break means the guy has the biggest .... oh, never mind.

It's not really a 14.1 thing. The north-siders are just afraid to travel south of Cermak. Always have been. The Levee, Al Capone, the stockyards, the steel mills - they've been scared of the South Side for generations. Also, many fewer Starbucks. And absolutely no famous French chefs.
