Which game is harder: pool or golf?

You are kidding right?
You say no margin for error? Then what the hell is SLOP doing in the biggest of pool games?
What to know why pool players are eating cracker ketchup sandwiches? Because pool players/promoters would cheat their own mother to get an extra $100 even if it brings the game down with them.
Golf set up rules (that most follow), they have a tour (not 15 tours), they all work together to make the game bigger and better, the players know they are not bigger than the game (will never happen in pool), I could go on and on.
What to know what I’m sick of, people who complain that there is no money in pool and then go to a league or a tournament and sandbag or cheat. Even the pros show little respect for the game. Earl cheating CW on national TV or John S leaving because he lost the first round to play golf to name a few huge “are you kidding me” moments of recent years.
Uggg, sorry for my rant, but don’t blame golfers if they get 80k after missing a putt, a putt that is usually being watched by tens of millions around the world. What is the most people watching any pool event at one time? Way more pressure then pool.

A couple of small things....even if you are just talking about USA, golf in fact does have several tours, not one.....and one of the most significant grass roots differences you didn't mention is as regards how the respective sports treat the subject of amateur/pro status.

Accept prize money or tuition fees in golf above a small fixed allowable amount and you are automatically disqualified from competing in any amateur events in the future (unless you apply for and are granted reinstatement after 1 or 2 years). Tens of millions of amateur golfers of a variety of abilities from 'hacker' to 'better than club pro' happily accept this rule without a murmur of complaint. The equivalent would not happen in pool for obvious reasons.

Enjoyed your rant though :)

The common test seems to be--are you more likely to beat a pro golfer or pro pool player at his game? That'll give you a clue.

. There're way more exuses to have for sucking in golf then there are for pool.

What a sec , I thought you were arguing pool was harder ? How can there be 'more' possible excuses on the easier game ?

You may need to rethink your 'point'.

Anyway . . .

Golf is way harder to excell at.

Magin for error ? Golf has ZERO. Every single attempt at a shot is scored against you. In a game of pool it's usually only one or 2 shots that really matter. You can screw up all day long as long as you drop the game ball before the other guy.

The 'course' will NEVER let you back in the game after you screw up 'the' shot.

You will never 'slop' one in to shoot a round of scratch.

Nothing on the course is flat , banks reliably , or rolls the same way twice.

You are always playing against a 'perfect' score ,which is posted on a sign right before every shot you take and in your face on the score card and you'll never get a second chance at it in that game.

An lastly . . .

In professional golf , if you only lose around 85% of the time , your the best player in the world. If , of course , you only lose around 80% of the time your the best player in the history of the sport.

:)

which is harder to make living at pool or golf. its pool hands down.

in golf a decent pro who never wins anything on a small tour might win a couple hundred thousand.

in pool you have to be a top 20 stand out world beater with many wins to keep your head above water.

the hardest to make it at is pool no doubt.

golfs a harder game but pool is the hardest to not have a sidejob at trust me i know.

No arguement there. There are alot of things I would like to do for a living that there is no money in. :(

Golf is alot more expensive to play. Imagine if you were able to invest as much time in golf as you do/did in pool (assuming we all play pool here). Now tell me which game is more difficult. Hell, I've invested years into playing basketball and I had no chace at making the NBA. That must make basketball the most difficult sport to play.

This is a trick, or at least trickY question. I played golf until I was injured, now I play pool. While I find golf a great sport to pass the time, I don't really find it as challenging as pool. At least not until you're putting. I didn't have to refine such miniscule muscle movements for golf like I am constantly doing for pool. an extra newton of energy to my fifth muscle on my stroke arm is going to cause me to hit the cue ball too hard for my safety...it takes a lot more than just a really slight twitch to hit a golf ball too hard. IMHO, I'm going with pool.

Zero margin for error in golf???? There's so much room for error it's almost like who sucks more. I could build a farm with all that margin for error.

I'm at a toss up as I have tried both...

I think the harder sport depends on where your natural abilities lie. If you picked up golf without much effort, but couldn't run a rack of 9-ball to save your life, you would think pool is harder and vice versa. I know players on both side of the coin and it really boils down to which sport they showed natural aptitude at.

As for me, it would be golf...I can't hit that little white ball. :)

All we see of golfers are the ones that have made it at least to the Nationwide tour. For every one you see on TV there are thousands who didn't make it for some reason or other. In pool you can enter a tournament and end up playing someone like John Schmidt in the first round of the losers bracket. If it were golf I would never get close enough to say hello.
